Job Summary:
Duties will involve the year-round maintenance of the campus grounds.
These will include:
- Operating riding mowers and walk-behind mowers, edger, backpack blower, garden tractor, hedge trimmers, and other power equipment as required.
- Operating a ¾-ton pickup truck with manual transmission while pulling a utility trailer.
- Raking leaves, weeding, maintaining flowerbeds.
- Pruning shrubs and small ornamental trees, including climbing ladders and/or operating a lift while pruning.
- Servicing and installing irrigation.
- Landscape construction and planting of flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees.
- Using hand tools.
- Digging and trenching.
- Fertilizer application
- Snow removal
- Event setup
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Responsibilities may include the supervision of student workers. This employee should have the ability to communicate clearly and to train and inspire workers with little or no prior experience.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Professional experience of 1 – 3 years (or equivalent).
- The employee needs to have a positive attitude, be able to follow direction, and have an eye for detail.
- Good communication skills and safe, efficient, and responsible work habits are essential.
- Must have basic computer competence.
- A desire to expand your horticultural knowledge and technique will be a key to success.
- We are looking for a candidate with a passion for gardening and a desire to serve God in a Christian work environment.
- The candidate must have a valid Oregon driver’s license and must be insurable.
- Must be able to drive a pickup truck while pulling and/or backing a utility trailer.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling. Lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Must be able to use a ladder safely, including pruning/orchard ladders, extension ladders, and step ladders, within their operating range.
- May be required to obtain certification to operate a vertical lift.
- Working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Handling motor fuels.
- Operating a commercial backpack blower on a regular basis.
