BUSHNELL TRUSS

General Manager — Truss Plant

Wood Roof & Floor Trusses and Lumber Packs

Type: Full-time, on-site

About the Role

We build wood roof and floor trusses and provide lumber packages for builders, framers, and across our region. We run big volume out of a small office, which means the General Manager wears a lot of hats — you own the plant floor, the yard, delivery, and the numbers behind all of it.

This is a hands-on job for someone who knows how trusses actually get built: from a designer's cut sheet, through the saws, onto the tables, out the door on time, and installed without a callback. You'll lead the crew, keep the equipment running, hold the line on safety and quality, and protect the margin on every job. If you like a clean floor, an accurate build schedule, and complete loads leaving on the day we promised — this is your shop.

What You'll Run

  • Run the full plant: cutting, pressing, roof- and floor-truss assembly, lumber-pack cut-and-wrap, the yard, loading, and
  • Own daily production against the build schedule: sequence jobs by ship date, keep the component/linear saws and assembly tables fed, and get complete, correct loads out the door on the day we promised.
  • Keep the equipment up: Cordinate with maintenance for repairs on component and linear saws, roller presses and gantry tables, floor-truss machines, plate/finish presses, wizard tables, forklifts, and Moffett/piggyback trucks. Manage the PM schedule and coordinate repairs so downtime doesn't blow the schedule.
  • Own quality: right plates in the right spots per the sealed engineering, correct lumber grade and species, in-house QC checks, and readiness for third-party inspection. Drive down cutting errors, plate slippage, and rebuilds.
  • Manage material and yield: watch board footage, cull, and scrap; keep dimensional and MSR lumber, connector plates, and EWP (LVL, I-joists) for lumber packs at the right levels; and work with purchasing so we never run short or sit on dead stock.
  • Lead the people: train, schedule, and hold accountable saw operators, table and press crews, material handlers, and drivers, and coordinate with the design/detailing team. Set the standard and build a bench.
  • Own safety: run an OSHA-compliant, safety-first floor — forklift (powered industrial truck) certification, lockout/tagout, saw and press guarding, safe lumber handling, dust and housekeeping. Lead toolbox talks and close out incidents.
  • Coordinate with sales, design/engineering, and purchasing so what's quoted and designed can actually be built and shipped on schedule — you're the bridge between the office and the floor.
  • Watch the numbers that matter: throughput (trusses / board feet per day), on-time delivery, labor hours per unit, scrap and rework, and cost per job — and act on them before they become a problem.

What We Need From You

  • Several years running or supervising production in a wood truss or component plant
  • A hands-on understanding of how metal-plate-connected wood trusses are designed, cut, and assembled — you can read a cut sheet and placement plan and spot a problem before it ships.
  • Proven floor leadership: you've built and held a crew accountable and run a shift or a plant, not just a single line.
  • Real safety ownership — an OSHA-compliant floor and a forklift program, and a safety-first habit that's more than a poster on the wall.
  • Comfort with production scheduling and the reports that drive it — you can build and read a schedule and use Excel to track throughput, yield, and on-time delivery.
  • Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot saws, presses, and material-handling equipment and work a repair through to done.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with truss design/management software — MiTek Production, - enough to talk to designers and understand plant capacity.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/TPI 1, BCSI handling and bracing guidance, and SBCA best practices.
  • Floor-truss and open-web experience, plus lumber-pack / framing-package fulfillment.
  • Delivery and logistics know-how — Moffett/piggyback operation, flatbed loading, and load securement/DOT basics.

Work Environment

Plant and yard setting with heat, cold, dust, noise, and moving equipment. You'll be on your feet and on the floor most of the day, with some lifting and the occasional early start to hit a ship time. This is a lead-from-the-floor role, not a desk job. Currently we are working 6 days per week.
