Retail Pet Store Assistant Manager

We are looking for a smart, motivated individual who can help manage a busy holistic pet supply store. Retail sales and customer service is a requirement and previous management experience is also required.

We have been in business for 16 years and our busy all-natural pet supply store sells a full line of food, treats, vitamins and supplements, toys, collars and leashes, and anything else that will help better a pet's life. Owners come to us looking to change foods, find a supplement that works, or for advice on how to best care for their pet. Sales staff must learn how and when to recommend a new food, treat or supplement, how to run the self-service dog wash, and must be comfortable talking to people who are looking for help.

While associates help to drive sales growth by working in multiple areas of the store (sales floor, cashiering, replenishment, dog wash, cleaning), the Assistant Manager’s duty is to support the staff, oversee store operations, and confer with the Manager daily.

Team Leader duties include:

- Opening and/or closing the store

- Assigning daily tasks & making sure they are completed

- Dealing with customer returns/issues/special orders

- Checking in shipments

- Keeping the stock room in order

- Covering breaks

- Overall management of the store during business hours

Other duties include:

- Receiving invoices/checking emails

- Keeping up with supplies/shampoos/samples

- Managing our adoption program

- Updating team on new products/promotions/news

- Managing team birthdays

- Other miscellaneous tasks

Overseeing the team at Busch Pet Products is multi-faceted. The team is expected to know how to perform all the duties at the store, which include:

Sales floor:

- answers customers' questions about products, services, and pet nutrition

- drives store sales and growth by working with each customers' individual needs

- provides customers with the appropriate product(s) by asking effective questions

- converts returns, offers and other promotions into larger sales

- creates customer awareness of programs and rewards available to them (i.e. frequent buyer programs, monthly promotions, store reward program)

- understands and adheres to visual merchandising brand standards

- keeps sales floor free of potential safety issues

- assists in housekeeping of sales floor and communicating maintenance issues

- has a keen awareness of, and building personal capability in, loss prevention

Cashering:

- delivers a friendly checkout experience, processing transactions efficiently and accurately

- reinforces customers' buying decisions and encourages additional purchases

- builds customer loyalty and confidence by capturing email and phone information for our rewards program, as well as making the customer aware of programs and rewards available to them

- replenishes merchandise to store standards and ensures that product is placed back on sales floor properly

- assists with other projects as needed (markdowns, reticketing items, rewards and frequent buyer program updates, etc.)

Replenishment:

- has a keen awareness of items on sales floor

- executes floorset efficiently

- understands and adheres to brand standards

- keeps up with out-of-stocks and assists with ordering

- assists with maintenance of back room and back stock, including merchandise and non-merchandise, to brand standards to enable efficient replenishment

Dog wash:

- takes initiative to help bathers move into the wash quickly and efficiently on busy days

- instructs new customers on how the wash operates

- is able to answer questions of bathers on types of shampoos, treatments, and other services relating to the dog wash

- maintains cleanliness and orderliness in wash at all times

General:

- understands dog behavior and prevents potential issues before they develop

- preparing for each shift by maintaining awareness of all sales, promotions and applicable ringing procedures

The Assistant Manager should be available on weekend days and throughout the week, and interested persons must be available to work weekends and evenings until 7 p.m. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb a ladder, and be able to be on your feet all day. Candidate must be able to handle boxes and bags and put away inventory as it arrives in, all while serving the customer first and foremost. Multi-tasking is an important part of this position.
