District Groundskeeper Job Description

Job Title: District Groundskeeper
Department: Grounds
Education Level and Certification: High school degree or GED. Custodial and maintenance experience preferred. Must maintain at all times during employment an unrestricted motor vehicle operator’s license and a satisfactory driving record that meets requirements of Board policy.
Reports To: Director of Grounds and Director of Business and Operations
Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks:
- Knowledge of all aspects of landscape maintenance and repair.
- Ability to operate and perform minor upkeep on medium to large sized landscape and grounds equipment.
- Operate and maintain lawn aerator, mowing equipment, lawn and mid-size tractor, push mower, string trimmer, pump up sprayer, snowblower, salt spreader, and a variety of other related equipment.
- Knowledge of grounds care including routine maintenance, mowing, trimming, edging, tree and shrub pruning, planting, bed care, irrigation.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems, repair and operation.
- Ability to work with or without supervision, follow directions, and follow work assignments, schedules and procedures.
- Available for snow removal at all hours of the day or night, weekdays, weekends and holidays.
- Interact and communicate with staff, students, coworkers and the public in a professional, respectful, courteous and positive manner.
- Must be flexible and willingly adjust quickly to the changing demands of a busy School District.
- Drive vehicles to perform or travel to job sites, including vans, commercial trucks and trailers.
- General knowledge of athletic field maintenance and upkeep.
- Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
FLSA Exempt Status: Non-exempt.
Essential Functions: The essential functions of the Groundskeeper position include: (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and performance responsibilities which require effective communication skills; and (3) the ability to perform the following identified physical requirements.
At-Will Position. This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
