ABOUT THE ROLE
Burton Design & Construction, LLC (BDC) is seeking a highly capable and motivated Assistant Project Manager (APM) to join our growing, fast-paced residential construction firm. This role is central to ensuring excellence across all active projects, internal processes, and cross-functional teams.
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) position works collaboratively with Project Managers in the management, coordination, scheduling, and overall organization of their projects. The APM is a valued member of the Project Team, which typically consists of a Project Manager, Foreman/Superintendent, and Field crew internally, as well as Clients, Designers, Architects and Subcontractors outside the office.
This position is designed to provide hands-on experience across all phases of residential construction project management. Successful Assistant Project Managers will have opportunities to expand their responsibilities and develop toward a Project Manager role as experience, performance, and business needs allow.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
In this role, you will support multiple residential construction projects from conception through completion, helping ensure budget, schedule, safety, quality, and client experience objectives are achieved. You will work closely with Project Managers, field teams, subcontractors, and clients to keep projects organized, moving forward, and positioned for success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support to the Project Management Team to help oversee all aspects of construction projects from planning to implementation.
- Assist PMs in their daily tasks both in the office and in the field.
- Assist in the preparation of project estimates, schedules, budgets, and contracts.
- Assist in assembling and distributing bid packages to Subcontractors.
- Assist in preparing, tracking, and processing client and subcontractor change orders.
- Assist with permit tracking, inspection scheduling, and coordination with local jurisdictions.
- Jobsite set up (coordinating with Foreman/Superintendent to get projects started).
- Drafting subcontracts and subcontract change orders; managing signatures and required documents from subs; and scanning, filing, and distributing to the project team.
- Ensure all project documentation is properly maintained, organized, and stored in accordance with company standards.
- Running budget and other project reports and reviewing with the PM prior to the weekly Reporting.
- Attending key project meetings and taking notes / preparing meeting minutes.
- Assist in preparing and distributing weekly client updates and project communications.
- Update Buildertrend with Jobsite daily logs, weekly client updates, jobsite pictures.
- Perform site safety inspection reports (when visiting job sites) and monthly Field Inspection Checklist reports.
- Assembling and helping maintain Job Binders/folders, both in the office and on job sites.
- Compiling end of project warranty packages for Clients.
- Assist Project Managers and Field Leadership in coordinating and monitoring onsite personnel and subcontractors.
- Interface with Project Inspectors, Contractors, Architects, Engineers, City and County Officials, and Clients.
- Assist Project Managers in obtaining, reviewing, and evaluating subcontractor and vendor pricing.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship that adhere to original plans and specifications.
- Assist in the creation and submission of Request for Information (RFI) to consultants.
- Other tasks as directed by the PM for smooth project operation.
- Engage, as needed, with clients in support of project needs.
- Support and promote BDC's safety culture by identifying hazards, participating in safety inspections, and helping ensure compliance with company and Cal-OSHA safety standards.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- 2 years of experience in residential construction in project coordination or as an assistant project manager.
- Familiarity with construction industry procedures, processes, and terminology.
- Must have a good temperament with a team player attitude.
- Ability to climb ladders, or look in tight spaces (e.g., crawl spaces, attics) to inspect job sites.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Able to meet deadlines and handle the flow of urgent tasks with grace.
- Strong leadership qualities and negotiation skills
- Strong proficiency with business and construction management software including Microsoft Office 365, Buildertrend, email, and mobile communication tools.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
TECHNICAL & SYSTEMS SKILLS
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams)
- Experience with Buildertrend or equivalent construction project management solutions is a big plus.
- Comfortable learning and enforcing standardized processes and systems.
ABSOLUTE MUSTS
- Must speak/write English. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Must have reliable transportation as traveling locally to job sites will be required.
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Additional education or certifications in project management, construction management, operations, or business are a plus.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Competitive salary, with a range of $68,000–$85,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities. Growth opportunities exist as Burton Design & Construction, LLC continues to expand.

You will report to the Sr. Project Manager, who oversees all BDC regions and helps ensure consistency, alignment, and operational excellence across teams.
SCHEDULE, LOCATION & TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
- Primary office: Los Gatos, CA
- We are a work in the office culture and value team members who come to the office, work together, collaborate, and learn from each other. The core hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- Travel may occasionally be required between BDC locations.
