- Build and tune semantic models, data models, and calculated measures that are accurate, performant, and reusable — the kind of foundation that makes the entire analytics portfolio more trustworthy and efficient.
- Engage directly with business stakeholders to understand their analytical needs, define meaningful KPIs, and translate ambiguous requirements into reporting solutions that genuinely move the needle.
- Connect Power BI and other BI platforms to cloud data sources including Databricks, Snowflake, Azure SQL, and lakehouse environments using the right connectivity patterns for each use case, from DirectQuery and Import to composite models and gateways.
- Establish and champion data visualization standards, naming conventions, and development best practices that bring consistency and usability to the BI portfolio at scale.
- Support the migration and modernization of legacy reporting environments such as IBM Cognos and Crystal Reports to current, cloud-native BI platforms.
- Implement row-level security, data governance controls, and access management within BI platforms to protect sensitive data and maintain compliance.
- Work closely with data engineering, architecture, and governance teams to ensure BI solutions are well-integrated with the broader enterprise data strategy.
- Enable self-service analytics by curating datasets, building reusable templates, and producing documentation that gives business users the confidence to explore data on their own.
- Monitor and continuously improve report performance, refresh schedules, and platform capacity to deliver a consistently reliable experience for end users.
- Stay current on emerging BI tools and capabilities, and bring informed recommendations that shape platform strategy and roadmap decisions.
- Mentor junior team members and analysts on BI development best practices, effective data storytelling, and the principles of strong visualization design.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 5 years of hands-on experience designing and delivering enterprise BI solutions in a professional environment.
- Skills: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Power BI including Power BI Desktop, the Power BI Service, dataflows, and paginated reports is highly preferred; candidates with deep experience in Tableau, Cognos, Looker, or Qlik will also be considered provided they are committed to building Power BI expertise; strong SQL skills across relational and cloud-native data sources; hands-on experience with DAX and Power Query (M) for semantic modeling, calculated measures, and KPI development; equivalent experience in Tableau LOD expressions, Cognos, or MDX is also valued.
- Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud data environments such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, or equivalent.
- Governance: Solid understanding of data governance, security frameworks, and access control within BI platforms.
- Other: Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to collaborate across both technical and business-facing audiences.
- Experience administering the Power BI Service, including workspaces, deployment pipelines, capacity management (Premium/Fabric), and tenant configuration.
- Familiarity with the broader Microsoft data and analytics ecosystem, including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, and both on-premises and VNet data gateways.
- Microsoft certifications such as PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) or DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer).
- A track record of migrating or modernizing legacy reporting platforms such as Cognos, Crystal Reports, or SSRS to modern BI solutions.
- Experience with embedded analytics, API-driven report distribution, or programmatic BI development approaches.
