Sr. Mechanical & Thermal Infrastructure Engineer

Burrow Global
Beaumont, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 8/4/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/3/2026
Burrow Global is seeking a Senior Mechanical & Thermal Infrastructure Engineer to design, scale, and optimize next-generation liquid and air-cooling architectures for frontier AI Data Centers in Texas.

In this role, you will act as a primary technical authority managing multi-megawatt campus thermal management and mechanical fluid systems. You will solve the escalating heat rejection demands of high-density, GPU-accelerated computing clusters (scaling from 40 kW to over 150 kW per rack).

Your core focus will stretch from campus-level central utility plants down to chip-level thermal integration. You will ensure continuous operational uptime, thermal stability, and maximum energy efficiency through advanced liquid cooling loops, high-density airflow management, and rapid thermal transient mitigation.

Core Responsibilities

  • High-Density Liquid Cooling Architecture: Architect, standardize, and scale multi-megawatt facility liquid cooling loops (FWS/TCS) supporting direct-to-chip (D2C) cold plates, rear-door heat exchangers (RDHx), and full immersion cooling systems across 100 MW to 1 GW campuses.
  • Thermal Transient & Dynamic Load Management: Utilize computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and dynamic thermal modeling to engineer resilient rejection systems capable of absorbing immediate, massive thermal spikes as AI clusters swing between peak training workloads and idle states.
  • Central Utility Plant (CUP) & Heat Rejection: Design and oversee the integration of central cooling plants, including high-efficiency chillers, adiabatic dry coolers, cooling towers, and primary/secondary pumping packages optimized for low Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE).
  • Whitespace Mechanics & CDU Integration: Partner with IT hardware integration teams to optimize white space mechanical delivery, specifying Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), quick-disconnect couplings, manifolds, structural piping racks, and secondary loop fluid quality monitoring.
  • HVAC, Hydronics & Plumbing Design: Oversee comprehensive building mechanical systems, including pressurization control, humidity regulation, airflow containment structures, emergency ventilation, and critical makeup water/fluid storage infrastructure.
  • Cross-Functional MEP Engineering: Collaborate with power and electrical engineering teams to align mechanical heat rejection loads with electrical supply architectures, emergency power generation, and dynamic variable-frequency drive (VFD) controls.
  • Testing, Commissioning & Fluid Diagnostics: Author and execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and complex Integrated Systems Testing (IST) protocols to validate hydraulic balancing, failover pumping schemes, and automated valve controls under real-world simulated thermal loads.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline. A Master's degree in Thermal-Fluid Sciences or Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
  • Experience: 7 to 10 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in hyperscale data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, heavy industrial fluid processing, or high-density thermal management.
  • Thermal & Hydraulic Modeling: Advanced, hands-on proficiency with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software (e.g., Ansys Fluent, 6SigmaET/Future Facilities, or SimScale) and hydraulic/piping network simulation tools (e.g., AFT Fathom or Pipe-FLO).
  • Controls & Instrumentation: Deep working familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), Direct Digital Controls (DDC), industrial instrumentation (flow, differential pressure, temperature sensors), and dynamic control loops for pumping/chilling operations.
  • Standards & Codes: Comprehensive knowledge of ASHRAE TC 9.9 guidelines, ASME B31.1/B31.9 piping codes, SMACNA standards, NFPA guidelines, and Texas environmental/water conservation regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Credentials: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas (or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months).
  • AI Hardware Familiarity: Direct experience engineering thermal delivery tailored for high-density GPU architectures (e.g., NVIDIA Blackwell, GH200, or custom ASIC clusters).
  • Water & Fluid Management: Specialized knowledge in dielectric fluids, glycol mixture dynamics, water treatment, and closed-loop fluid chemistry control.
  • Work Arrangement: Remote work is possible, but frequent travel to client sites and facilities across Texas is required.
