The Burrillville School Department is seeking certified and qualified candidates for the position of Elementary School Principal. This position is at our William L. Callahan Elementary School which serves grades two through five and has a student population of about 300 children. The position begins on July 1, 2025.

Please refer to the following job description for position requirements and responsibilities.TOWN OF BURRILLVILLEBurrillville School DepartmentPosition DescriptionTitle: PrincipalSupervisor: Superintendent of SchoolsDepartment: School DepartmentGENERAL PURPOSE: The Principal is the chief administrator of the school to which he/she is assigned and is charged with overseeing, supervising, and directing the daily operations and educational programs at the school to conform to School Department policies and procedures. The Principal will facilitate a culture that promotes an exemplary educational program and a positive learning environment. He/she will provide educational leadership through the attainment of School Department as well as school-based goals. The Principal will provide management structures that promote professionalism to include supervising all building staff and directing and monitoring the financial management of the school budget at the direction of the Superintendent.

The Principal shall interpret and promote the schools program to teachers, parents, and the community. The Principal, in conjunction with the Superintendent, shall develop annual job goals that will become a part of the criteria used to evaluate the Principal.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Supervises all members of the School Department staff assigned to the school in matters of School Department policies, building procedures, curricular offerings, student involvement, school nutrition, and building cleanliness.2.Oversees and facilitates all organizational functions, e.g., student and staff scheduling, grade reporting, publications, communications, and facilities management, etc.,3.Sets goals and ensures evaluation of all staff assigned to the school in a manner consistent with School Department practice and procedures.4.Regularly visits all classes and maintains a continuous program of evaluation of instruction and the appropriateness of the program.5.Monitors the evaluation of all existing texts, materials, and methods of conducting and complying with the established course of study.6.Prepares a school budget in conjunction with the Superintendent to conform to the staff and financial allocation approved by the School Committee.7.Ensures that there is an accurate accounting of all funds raised, received, and/or expended as part of the schools program, including activity accounts.8.Manages recruitment, screening, and interviewing of potential staff and provides recommendations to the Superintendent regarding personnel decisions.9.Establishes a line of staff operation in terms of areas of responsibility for those persons in charge of the school in the absence of the Principal. 10.Provide statistics, records, reports, and research as may be required for the successful operation of the school or district and as requested or required by the Superintendent, including a monthly report of the activities and functions of the school.11.Provides leadership in regard to new developments in curriculum, evaluation, and school management through readings, conferences, and other means of acquiring training and knowledge and disseminates information to members of the administrative, instructional, and support staffs on a regular basis, including conducting staff development workshops for the benefit of School Department employees.12.Assumes responsibility for the overall supervision of all activity programs within the school.13.Promotes a learning environment that values achievement based on individual growth.14.Establishes reliable communications with staff and with the community. 15.Facilitates good public relations by ensuring hospitable interaction with parents and the community.

16.Conducts other staff duties and responsibilities, including attending meetings as requested or required by the Superintendent or attending and participating in community meetings and working with community organizations as well as any other staff function required by the Superintendent.17.Performs other tasks and duties as may be required by the Superintendent.SUPERVISES: All School StaffMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1.A Masters Degree, advanced degree preferred.2.Certification as a Principal for the appropriate grade level(s).3.A minimum of 8 years teaching/administrative experience.4.An ability to articulate a vision of an exemplary school within an exemplary school district.5.Experience with supervision and evaluation.6.Experience with scheduling.7.Experience with curriculum development and knowledge of current research. 8.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff. 9.Demonstrated knowledge and application of a variety of technological skills.10.Demonstrated commitment to the implementation of standards.11.Demonstrated commitment to experiential learning for all students.12.Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with parents in the support of students.13.Demonstrated willingness to pursue professional development to ensure that knowledge and skills remain current.
