Please read the following job description for position responsibilities and qualifications.TOWN OF BURRILLVILLEBurrillville School DepartmentPosition DescriptionTitle: Preschool Registered Nurse/ParaprofessionalSupervisor: High School Assistant Principal/ Early Learning Center LiaisonLocation: Integrated Special Education ProgramGENERAL PURPOSE: Summary: The Preschool Registered Nurse/Teacher Assistant position is a unique role that combinesnursing duties with instructional support responsibilities in the Integrated Special Education PreschoolProgram. This individual will work alongside teachers and paraprofessionals to provide skilled medicalcare and assistance to students as required, while also serving as an instructional aide when no acute nursingcare is needed.PRIMARY NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES: - Administer prescribed medication per physician orders via oral, G-tube, injection and/or nebulizer routes- Provide skilled nursing treatments such as catheterization, wound care, diabetes management- Monitor students with chronic conditions (e.g. seizures, asthma, allergies)- Conduct vision, hearing, scoliosis and other mandated health screenings- Maintain accurate and compliant medical records per nursing standards- Provide health education and training to staff on medical conditions, treatments and emergency protocols- Respond to illness, injuries and medical emergencies following nursing processPRIMARY PARAPROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist lead special education and general education teachers in implementing IEP/lesson plans- Provide individualized academic, behavioral and self-care support for students with IEPs- Facilitate inclusion by supporting students' active participation in general education activities- Gather data and document progress towards IEP goals across multiple settings- Prepare adapted materials and assistive technology per student needs- Implement applied behavior analysis strategies and positive behavior supports- Supervise and facilitate peer interactions during classroom activities, meals and recessQUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program- Minimum 2 years of pediatric/school nursing experience preferred- Current Registered Nurse license in good standing in the State of Rhode Island- Knowledge of federal/state laws and regulations for special education- Experience working with students with disabilities- Excellent written/verbal communication skills- CPR/AED/First Aid certified- Mandatory de-escalation and physical intervention trainingThis split role allows an experienced Pediatric Registered Nurse to utilize their specialized clinical skillswhile also directly supporting the learning and inclusion of preschool students with disabilities and specialneeds in the classroom.
