Title: Outreach Librarian

Under the direction of the Library Director, the Outreach Librarian supports the development and delivery of library resources and services to specific user groups. The Outreach Librarian collaborates with college staff and faculty to develop processes and procedures regarding users’ eligibility to access library resources and services. Through various channels, actively promotes library collections and a wide range of services such as document delivery, reference and research support, and individual or group instruction to meet the information needs of users, including Preceptors and others as identified. Communicates and interacts professionally and effectively with all affiliates, as well as with the public, to help strengthen community relationships and build external partnerships in alignment with the college’s mission, goals, and objectives. Performs assessment activities and participates in planning and other strategies to help ensure overall program success.
- This is a temporary, part-time position, contingent upon funding.
- This position is exempt.
- This position reports to the Director of the Library.
Examples of Duties:
- Outreach and community engagement: Develop, implement, and evaluate outreach initiatives and activities to connect and support various user groups and college communities.
- Information services: Provide reference and research assistance, perform literature searches, and assist users in locating and retrieving authoritative health information.
- Instruction and training: Provide in-person and/or virtual instruction on the access and use of medical and health information resources.
- Content creation: Develop informational and educational resources such as research guides and tutorials.
- Partnership building: Develop and maintain strategic library partnerships with affiliated organizations, medical and health sciences libraries, and other organizations/populations within the college’s service areas.
- Promotion: Actively promote library resources and services through various channels, including institutionally supported social media outlets.
- Collaboration: Work with internal and external stakeholders such as other librarians and the Network of the National Library of Medicine (“NNLM”) to support broader college initiatives.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills important to this position:
- Strong knowledge of medical and health sciences resources, evidence-based practice, and information retrieval strategies.
- Proficiency in technology and digital tools needed for instruction and the delivery of information content and services.
- Project management, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize work and multitask.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Terminal Degree (MLS, MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution.
- 3 years of directly related experience.
- Experience with current library systems and software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in health sciences librarianship, clinical settings, or related library environments.
- Experience with program development, evaluation, and/or management.
- Teaching or training experience.
- Marketing and promotion experience.
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with diverse user groups and populations.

- Typically, between the days/hours of: Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm.
- May occasionally involve evenings and weekends.
