The established team in our Wheeling office represents long-term care facilities, hospitals, and medical professionals in malpractice claims, and provides complex litigation representation in energy, professional liability, construction, and employment matters. We also counsel clients on matters related to risk management, contract negotiations, non-compete agreements, licensing, leases, premises liability, royalty lawsuits, and wrongful death matters. The paralegal will work in partnership with attorneys with a focus on general litigation matters. This position offers opportunities to demonstrate leadership and work with autonomy in a team-oriented environment.
Essential Functions
- Work on case teams and take initiative in the coordination of efforts
- Leverage knowledge and experience to take initiative in managing multiple matters
- Order and inventory medical, pathology, and radiology material
- Have contact with experts, clients, opposing counsel, and other contacts
- Diary case management deadlines
- Schedule and prepare materials for witness and expert depositions
- Assist in the organization of exhibits and binders in preparation for trial
- Organize and maintain electronic case files
Job Requirements:
- Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- 2 or more years’ experience
- Highly organized and able to prioritize workload with attention to detail and highly accurate
- Able to work independently and as part of a team with strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Quick learner who is enthusiastic about contributing to the team effort.
- Able to follow detailed instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership and initiative by actively managing files, deadlines, etc.
- Strong PC skills, especially MS Word and Excel.
Equipment, Physical/Mental Demands, Working Conditions
Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine, etc.
Sitting for extended periods, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate in person and via telephone with internal and external customers.
Able to deal with stress in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities. Make decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas and technologies. Communicate and successfully interact with various personalities at all organizational levels.
