The Senior Sales & Use Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and local tax regulations. This role will lead the analysis, reporting, and reconciliation of sales and use tax data, working closely with cross-functional teams to minimize tax liabilities and optimize financial processes. The Senior Sales & Use Tax Analyst will be responsible for leading the navigation of complex tax codes and regulations.
- Conduct complex research on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Consult the business on sales tax laws and regulations pertaining to complex construction projects.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, such as finance, accounting, and legal teams, to develop and implement tax planning strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all tax obligations and minimize the risk of audits or penalties.
- Lead the analysis of financial data, sales transactions, and invoices to identify tax liabilities and exemptions.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in sales and use tax laws and regulations at the state and local levels.
- Recommend and implement opportunities to minimize tax liabilities and optimize tax efficiency.
- Lead data validation and ensure detailed records are maintained for audit purposes.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of tax processes and procedures is maintained.
- Review reports and summaries for department management.
- Ensure information regarding tax requirements and changes relevant to departments within the organization is communicated.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 8 years of relevant experience, extra credit may be given for public accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of state and local tax regulations, including sales and use tax laws.
- Ability to interpret tax statutes, regulations, administrative guidance, case law, and secondary source authority to recommend tax positions for complex fact patterns.
- Strong proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
