Burns & McDonnell is seeking to hire a Senior Development Project Manager in the Power global practice in the Kansas City, MO office. The Development team is a dedicated group focused on all aspects of project development for opportunities in the power generation sector. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team to support all aspects of project development for heavy industrial and conventional energy generation projects.
As a Senior Development Project Manager, you will be heavily engaged in working with a focused team to help expand Burns & McDonnell’s presence in the power generation market, and to help continue to define/redefine and implement our strategy for continued success moving forward in the ever-changing energy industry. This is a working position, with the successful candidate responsible for day-to-day management of suppliers, proposals, estimates, documentation turnover and client relations/management and completing the following responsibilities and coordinating the completion of tasks by others, as necessary, in addition to other responsibilities and tasks as determined by Business Unit Managers and the Pre-Construction Manager. The Senior Development Project Manager is responsible for ensuring overall project execution and successful completion of projects on time and within budget.

Essential Responsibilities include the following: (other responsibility may be defined and assigned)
- Provide leadership and guidance of all efforts encompassing all phases of project development (from initial concept to implementation of execution plan).
- Management and coordination of a multi-disciplined support team, including management and coordination of team members across multiple Global Practices and office locations to complete required tasks and ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
- Heavy interface with customers and clients across all levels and facets of an organization (internal and external) to identify, understand and cultivate project drivers and goals and develop necessary approaches and solutions.
- Sets and maintains project schedules and manages project team to complete required tasks by established due dates to support overall development activities.
- Ownership and responsibility for timely completion of all project development activities assigned by the Business Unit Managers and Pre-Construction Manager.
- Leading engineering and pre-construction for projects in the pipeline. Must have the ability to multi-task among several projects at one time.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding client coordination, strategic planning, master scope management, budget finances, subcontracting, project staffing, environmental compliance, facility support and schedule attainment.
- Manage the review, negotiation, approval, and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, and change orders as necessary.
- Optimizing design approach, execution approach, and project solution(s) considering technical and economic parameters to achieve to achieve internal and external defined project drivers and goals.
- Understanding of project, industry, and market economic conditions to support and drive development of project cost estimates and economic considerations.
- Maintaining current knowledge of conventional and emerging technologies including pricing, technical and implementation considerations, and prevailing commercial information (delivery, major terms, etc.).
- Leading technical proposal efforts for heavy industrial and conventional generation project development.
- Supports business development efforts to identify and define opportunities and pursue and capture new projects.
- Participating in industry conferences and publications to further expand Burns & McDonnell’s presence in the energy market, including the development of white papers and presentations at conferences.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- 17 years of relevant experience required.
- Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred.
- Project development, project management, project implementation experience a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Due to the dynamic nature of the energy market, the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
- Experience with estimating or designing power generation systems is preferred.
- The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
- The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial, as well as the ability to maintain the project schedule and achieve target due dates.
