The Senior Commissioning Engineer leads commissioning planning, commissioning coordination, and schedule development for various Power Plant and/or Industrial Plants. This position will lead the commissioning planning for a wide variety of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems to ensure systems are commissioning with project start standards and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare commissioning plans, specifications and checklists based on Burns & McDonnell standards.
- Review designs, equipment submittals, operation and maintenance manual to develop commissioning plans, start-up reports and checklists.
- Develop and implement clear startup procedures as required by clients.
- Direct project teams to manage project checkout and testing activities. Provide leadership with technical staff activities to complete startup system testing.
- Oversee project deliverables for contract execution.
- Development and refinement of methodologies, tools, and standards in support of an evolving commissioning department.
- Lead meetings with owner, operation and maintenance, design and construction personnel to understand project goals and schedule to ensure commissioning is properly coordinated.
- Develop tools for tracking and reporting commissioning status to upper management, reporting progress and tracking project cost.
- Recruit, retain, train, develop, and mentor department staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Masters degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
- Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
- Advanced knowledge in mechanical or electrical engineering commissioning techniques, principles and procedures.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
- Demonstrated project management skills and a strategic perspective.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Understanding of site safety procedures, including electrical safety.
