Description

The Construction Quality Section Manager is responsible for the leadership and execution of quality activities within a section supporting the Heavy Industrial OGC Global Practice in the Construction group. This includes focusing on implementing quality strategies, supporting project execution, and developing staff, while promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture of quality in alignment with the firm's mission and values and mission.

  • Provide leadership and direction to section staff, including work assignment, staff utilization, performance management, professional development, and support for workforce planning efforts as needed.
  • Support the execution of quality strategies, tools, and initiatives established by department and global practice leadership, ensuring alignment with corporate, divisional, and regional objectives.
  • Lead day-to-day quality execution across projects, ensuring compliance with established standards, procedures, and project requirements.
  • Monitor and when required, support Construction Quality Managers and project teams in the development of Construction Project Quality Plans and associated ITPs.
  • Support project teams in planning and execution activities, including scheduling, estimating, and establishing project objectives, with a focus on quality outcomes and safe delivery of work.
  • Monitor quality program execution for gaps and recommend data‑driven improvements to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Monitor quality performance across projects by reviewing metrics and reports, identifying trends, and implementing corrective actions to improve results.
  • Coordinate and support quality audits, assessments, and field evaluations; facilitate resolution of findings through corrective actions and follow-up.
  • Identify and communicate project quality risks and issues, supporting resolution through coordination with project teams, leadership, and clients.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders and client counterparts regarding quality performance, issues, and expectations.
  • Collaborate with business line leaders, project managers, and construction/site teams to ensure consistent execution of quality requirements, including support of self-perform work.
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement through leadership, training, and knowledge sharing.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for department staff.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.
  • Responsible for interpreting the organization's policies, purposes, and goals to staff.
  • Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.
  • Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or related degree from an accredited program and 5 years related professional experience in design and/or project management.
  • Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement
  • Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, project teams, management, and clients.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of quality processes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be proficient in the use of standard business and project software applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable ASME Piping Code, AISC, RCSC, ACI, etc.
