Role Description
Burns Cooley Dennis, Inc. is seeking a full-time Accountant to join our on-site team in Ridgeland, MS. The Accountant will handle tasks including preparing financial statements, maintaining accurate records of financial transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank accounts, and assisting in budget preparation. This role will also support periodic audits, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and contribute to the overall financial health of the company by providing accurate and timely financial reporting.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in financial statements preparation, maintaining and reconciling accounts, and budget management
- Strong knowledge of accounting software, financial reporting tools, and account systems maintenance
- Familiarity with corporate finance regulations, compliance standards, and auditing procedures
- Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on accuracy and clarity
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
- Professional certifications (e.g., CPA) or relevant experience in the engineering or construction industry is a plus
Responsibilities
1. Assist with Payroll Bi-Weekly
2. Prepare Monthly Financial Statements
3. Analyze – Audit all General Accounts
4. Prepare all Quarterly and Annual Payroll Taxes (940, 941, Unemployment, IFTA, BLS)
5. Prepare Annual W-2 and 1099 Forms
6. Work with Southern Administrators, Inc. (Payroll Cafeteria and Flex Spending Account)
7. Prepare IFTA License, United Carrier Registrations, Form 2290 and all other taxes, as required
8. Implementing and/or maintaining accounting systems (Deltek)
9. Organizing and maintaining financial records
10. Overseeing the Operating Funding Accounts
11. CT Corp (Maintaining all Secretary-of-State Licensing)
12. Maintain Labor Rate Tables and Unit Rate Tables
13. Special Reports required by Management for Corp Insurance and other business request
14. Work with Auditors annually – (Year-end Corporate Taxes, Overhead Audits for MDOT, and Corporate Insurance audits)
15. Annual Property Tax
16. Out-of-State Revenue
17. Census Reports
18. Special Complicated Invoices.
19. Assist with HR as needed
20. Assist with OSHA Compliance as needed
* Experience with DELTEK a plus.
