Hours: Part-time managing (3 days a week) with the option to also bartend 2-3 shifts a week
Availability:  Nights and weekends required

Burning Bush Brewery Overview: Burning Bush Brewery is a brewpub in the North Center neighborhood in Chicago, IL. Our mission statement: offer high-quality craft beer, generous hospitality, and serve the greater community. We will live out our mission by: providing an excellent product and a wide variety of beers. We strive to create a warm, welcoming, positive and fun culture/atmosphere. We offer a free community room, provide donations to nonprofits and organize community service opportunities. 

In addition to offering great craft beer we also serve wine on tap, hard cider, hard seltzers, non-alcoholic beverages and a variety of snacks. Patrons are welcome to bring food or get food delivered. We occasionally have food trucks and food pop-ups.

Position Summary: Assistant Manager will work closely with the AGM and Director of Operations to oversee the day-to-day operations of the taproom and bar staff. The Assistant Manager will serve as Manager on Duty for at least 3 or more shifts a week. The assistant manager will also help the AGM as needed with the following tasks - inventory/stocking supplies, supervising/scheduling staff, performance management, event coordination, customer satisfaction, cleanliness/sanitation and safety practices/procedures. This position requires leadership ability to manage staff effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities - Including but not limited to:

  • Manager on Duty (MOD) 3 days a week – Serve as floor manager - direct customers to tables, welcome/coordinate events, help flip the room between events, help behind the bar as needed etc... 
  • Professionally Supervise Bar Staff – Ensure staff is arriving on time, greeting customers, completing opening/closing procedures and sidework, are informed on any events etc…
  • Events Coordination – As needed, support AGM with scheduling community room and all other events as needed. Serve as point person for events while serving as MOD
  • Stock Supplies - Restock and help keep track of inventory - Office supplies, cleaning supplies, bar supplies, guest beverages (wine, cider, sodas etc…), snacks, plates, napkins etc…, 
  • Merchandise – Assist with stocking and organizing all of our merchandise
  • Marketing/Posters - Assist AGM with hanging posters/signage to place around the bar 
  • Menus – Assist AGM in updating digital menus and print paper menus (weekly)
  • Point of Sale (Toast) – Update and maintain items in our POS. 
  • Bartend - Helping out when needed
  • Assist in Coordinating donation requests and other admin duties 

Required Knowledge Base: 

  • Characteristics and description of Burning Bush craft beer and all other beverages/snacks we offer.
  • Designated glassware for each drink.   
  • Room capacity, hours of operation, menus, prices and dress code.
  • Event Policies, pricing and other details -
  • Correct maintenance and use of equipment, using only as intended. 
  • Maintain complete knowledge of, and strictly abide by, state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk drivers.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of, and comply with, all company policies and service procedures. 
  • Adhere to all Health Department, sanitation, and safety regulations required by OSHA and Illinois. 
  • Use all chemicals in accordance with OSHA and Illinois regulations. 

Physical Requirements: 

Work conditions in certain areas of the bar/brewery can be hot, cold, wet, slippery and/or noisy. Frequent walking, including climbing up and down stairs are required. Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, lift, twist, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as needed, sometimes for extended periods, and to occasionally lift and carry heavy items up to 40 pounds (may be aided). Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Perform job functions with minimal supervision. 
  • Provide legible written communication. 
  • Compute basic mathematical calculations and cash handling experience. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages. 
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management and co-workers.
  • Illinois Basset Certification.
  • Illinois and Chicago Food Managers Certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hiring).
  • Two years’ experience as a bartender, server, assistant manager or manager.

Salary : $65,000 - $68,000
