Job Description
Burnham Law Firm is seeking an experienced, sharp, and detail-oriented Senior Litigation Paralegal or Contract Attorney for a part-time role. This position is designed for an experienced litigation professional who requires minimal training and can immediately contribute to active litigation matters. Responsibilities include managing discovery, drafting substantive motions, preparing demand packages, and supporting case strategy across plaintiff personal injury, workers' compensation, DWI/traffic, and select criminal defense matters.
*Our ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes ownership of assigned matters, enjoys tackling complex litigation challenges, and can confidently handle substantive litigation work with minimal supervision. Preference will be given to candidates familiar with Louisiana procedure, and secondarily Georgia and Texas procedure.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of plaintiff personal injury litigation experience
- Deep familiarity with drafting substantive legal motions, pleadings, and discovery (experience with Louisiana Civil District Courts preferred).
- Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting skills
- Experience managing multiple active litigation files simultaneously
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Reliable, professional, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia civil and criminal court procedures and e-filing platforms is a plus
Responsibilities
Discovery & Litigation:
- Draft and respond to written discovery
- Propound discovery to multiple defendants and monitor deadlines
- Draft Motions to Compel and related discovery motions
- Prepare Motions for Summary Judgment, Motions in Limine, Motions to Strike, and other litigation pleadings
- Calendar deadlines and follow ups, inform law firm of upcoming deadlines
- Draft Motions to Set for Trial, Motions to Amend, Motions to Withdraw, and other civil motions
- Draft writ applications, appellate briefs, and oppositions
- Prepare and issue subpoenas for records and witnesses
- Coordinate Rule 30(b)(6) and corporate representative depositions
- Review defense pleadings and summarize admissions, denials, and affirmative defenses
- Prepare deposition outlines for parties and experts
- E-file pleadings in Louisiana courts
Demand & Settlement:
- Prepare comprehensive settlement demand packages
- Draft bad faith and Stowers demand letters
- Review settlement offers and assist with negotiation strategy
- Draft Letters of Understanding and settlement correspondence
Medical & Case Development:
- Prepare medical chronologies and treatment summaries
- Draft petitions from intake materials
- Identify proper defendants, venue, and causes of action
- Conduct legal research on Louisiana law and evidentiary issues
- Assist in trial preparation and litigation strategy
Case Administration:
- Maintain litigation calendars and court deadlines
- Coordinate discovery deadlines and scheduling orders
- Communicate with opposing counsel regarding authorizations and case materials
- Coordinate with workers' compensation counsel when applicable
- Conduct client intake and gather information necessary for litigation
Investigation:
- Research companies online and identify registered agents and general counselors
- Draft and send out preservation letters and notices of representation
