The Family Resource Center of Burnett County is seeking to fill a Full Time (1.0 FTE) Family Support Specialist position in its Healthy Families Burnett County Home Visiting Program.
As a Healthy Families Burnett County Family Support Specialist home visitor, you will connect with expectant and new parents to support them in building nurturing and trusting relationships with their children. You will work to promote healthy childhood growth and development, support the well-being of the whole family, and reduce family stress. You will help parents identify and access community resources that help them accomplish their goals.

Healthy Families Burnett County Family Support Specialist Job Description
Key Responsibilities: The Family Support Specialist (FSS) is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular and long-term (up to five years) supportive relationships with families. Activities will occur primarily in the family’s home: each visit should last for at least one hour. Virtual visits may take place as needed. The interventions are family-centered, and strength based, and directed at establishing a trusting relationship; promoting healthy childhood growth and development; and enhancing family well-being by reducing risk and building protective factors. The FSS partners with families and honors diverse family structures and parenting practices.
Activities may also include but are not limited to:
- administering screening tools such as the ASQ, ASQ-SE Depression Screens, etc.;
- identifying and referring families for other supportive services, including health care services;
- assisting the family in establishing goals and supporting them throughout the process;
- implementing activities outlined on the Family Service Plan to address areas of concern that were identified on the FROG Scale;
- planning and facilitating group activities to promote social connections among the families enrolled in home visiting;
- completing and submitting appropriate program documentation of direct services, assessments, and accurate data reporting within the required timeframes;
- actively participating in continuous quality improvement projects by providing input on the topics selected;
- planning and attending community events throughout the county to promote home visiting.
Direct Service Staff Criteria:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. AA degree in early childhood education, human services preferred.
- Experience in working with or providing services to children and families. An ability to establish trusting relationships.
- Acceptance of individual differences.
- Experience and humility to work with culturally diverse families.
- Knowledge of infant and child development.
- Willingness to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g. capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.).
- Infant mental health endorsement preferred.
Other Criteria:
- Possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, current auto insurance coverage, and a clean driving record.
- Be dependable, reliable, and punctual. Can attend professional development trainings, both locally and out of the area, and be willing to assist with program events on evenings and/or weekends as needed.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Must pass a criminal background check(s).
- Provide at least 3 references.
