    Primary Purpose:
    Provide administrative and clerical support for special education ARD/IEP processes and compliance. Also provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of certified teachers in assigned classrooms. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities while ensuring timely and compliant ARD meetings and documentation.
    Qualifications:
    Education/Certification:
    Associate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the No Child Left Behind Act
    Valid Texas educational aide certificate (or obtained within 30 days of hire)
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Knowledge of school district organization, operations, and local/administrative board policies
    Knowledge of Special Education forms, related paperwork, ARD/IEP processes, and compliance requirements; eSped preferred
    Knowledge of computers and common office equipment
    Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies
    Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to follow up, and ability to work without direction
    Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally
    Ability to work well and in a positive manner with staff, students, and the public
    Ability to manage student behavior
    Ability to use computer software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and perform word processing
    Ability to follow oral and written instructions
    Experience:
    Two (2) years secretarial experience
    Prior experience working with children
    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
    ARD Clerk:
    • Schedule ARD meetings for special education students to include notifying parents, teachers, department chair, LSSP, diagnosticians, speech language pathologists, administrators, counselors, related services providers, and other staff as needed.
    • Prepare, copy, and/or electronically distribute all necessary paperwork, compliance forms, and IEPs to facilitate ARD meetings and to the proper individuals.
    • Maintain accurate and complete case load files; track deadlines for ARDs and notify staff in advance of deadlines; follow up to ensure meetings take place as scheduled by the required deadlines.
    • Transfer student files annually for those transitioning to/from other buildings or graduating.
    • Process confidential correspondence between staff members, Department of Special Programs personnel, parents of special education students, and private providers such as psychologists, psychiatrists, or physicians.
    • Receive phone calls/emails from parents, teachers, counselors, special education staff, and administrators; take reliable messages, assist with needs, and answer questions as appropriate.
    • Maintain special education student folders and all confidential student, staff, and special education information.
    Inclusion Support:
    • Provide instruction to students under the direction of a certified teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
    • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
    • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
    • Maintain neat and orderly classroom.
    • Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment and instructional materials.
    • Assist teacher with administrative records and prepare required reports; perform general clerical tasks.
    • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers as related to inclusion classes.
    • Occasionally assist with supervision of students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom (including lunchroom, bus, hallways, auditorium, and gyms).
    • Inform teachers and administration of special needs or problems for individual students; assist and oversee student academics and behavior management during disciplinary consequence sessions.
    • Participate in staff development training programs, staff meetings, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
    • Maintain consistent punctuality and regular attendance.
    • Maintain positive community relations by establishing positive rapport with students and parents.
