Position Summary:
The Oral Surgery Assistant supports the Oral Surgeon in providing high-quality surgical and patient care. This role involves assisting during surgical procedures, preparing and sterilizing instruments, maintaining accurate patient records, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients before, during, and after oral surgery procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the oral surgeon during all surgical and anesthesia procedures.
- Prepare treatment rooms by setting up surgical instruments, materials, and equipment.
- Maintain strict infection control and sterilization protocols in compliance with OSHA and CDC standards.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as directed.
- Monitor and comfort patients during and after procedures, providing post-operative instructions as needed.
- Manage surgical inventory, restock supplies, and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and charting.
- Answer after-hours calls from time-to-time
- Handle administrative and clinical tasks such as scheduling, confirming appointments, and updating medical histories.
- Provide patient education on pre- and post-operative care and oral health maintenance.
- Ensure adherence to safety, privacy, and compliance standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Dental Assistant program preferred.
- Previous Oral Surgery experience preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Dental Radiography certification (as required by state law).
- Knowledge of surgical instruments, aseptic technique, and anesthesia monitoring preferred.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient-care skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for handling instruments.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist in patient positioning if needed.
