Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for an Audiologist.

 

 

192-day contract (plus 2 orientation days initial year) beginning as soon as January 2026 or the 2026-2027 school year.

Salary: 2025-2026 Salary Schedule (based on education and experience - will be updated in 2026).

  
Position may serve Region(s) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.

  

Region 1: Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Moravia, Seymour, Wayne.

Region 2: Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont, Keota, North Mahaska, Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa Christian, Pekin, Sigourney, Tri-County.

Region 3: Cardinal, Davis County, Moulton-Udell, Ottumwa, Ottumwa Christian and Seton Catholic.

Region 4: Fairfield, Maharishi, Mediapolis, Morning Sun, Mt. Pleasant, WACO, Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union.

Region 5: Burlington, Burlington Notre-Dame, Danville, New London, and West Burlington.

Region 6: Central Lee, Fort Madison, Holy Trinity Catholic, Keokuk, Keokuk Catholic, and Van Buren County.

 

Position Overview:

 

The Audiologist has the responsibility to coordinate hearing conservation services which include identification and diagnostic evaluation of children from birth to 21 years in the districts assigned.  The audiologist is a member of an educational team, assisting to insure the least restrictive environment and making recommendations and arrangements for proper programming for all children who are deaf or hard of hearing.  Collaborative services are designed to address each child’s individual treatment, communication, academic and psychosocial needs.

 

Qualifications:

 

The Audiologist must have a master’s or doctorate degree in audiology and have the appropriate license from the Iowa Department of Public Health and/or certification from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE). An Audiologist must further have the experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, cooperative teamwork, multiagency coordination, and excellent written and verbal communication.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct a systematic screening program for identification of hearing loss.
  2. Perform diagnostic-rehabilitative evaluations of children who fail the screening program, those with known hearing loss, or those who have been referred.
  3. Educate the public, school personnel, and other interested people on the need for early detection and prevention of hearing loss.
  4. Participates in a cooperative program per Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EDHI) recommendations regarding newborn hearing screening.  
  5. Makes appropriate medical referrals and provides follow-up services through a cooperative program with doctors, nurses and parents.
  6. Inservice parents, AEA personnel, local school personnel and medical staff regarding hearing related topics (e.g., hearing loss, classroom acoustics, assistive listening devices).
  7. Communicate the hearing status of children to appropriate personnel.
  8. Recommend, maintain, and trouble-shoot assistive listening devices and personal amplification devices.
  9. Assign daily activities of audiometrist and provide supervision according to the licensure mandate from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
  10. Provide family support, including rehabilitative services, for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  11. Maintain a current knowledge of audiology practices and related areas of special education.
  12. Coordination of the maintenance and calibration of audiometric equipment.
  13. Maintain confidentiality of all student information per HIPAA and FERPA.
  14. Maintain data required for use in local school district (LEA), AEA, state and federal reporting.
  15. Comply with State and Federal rules and regulations and AEA policies and procedures.
  16. Assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Regional Director.
  17. Attend required discipline and regional meetings.
  18. Have experience in or ability to learn office technology software including, but not limited to, Google Suite and state web based programs (i.e. IMS, IFSP, EHDI).

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to travel between schools/sites served.
  2. Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking.  At times, the job may also involve above average levels of activity which can't always be anticipated.
