What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Co-Lead Teacher position at Burlington Little School?
Burlington Little School is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that focuses on the healthy development of preschool aged children. We are dedicated to providing high quality early learning in a way that is accessible to the community, and most importantly, appropriate for healthy development. This position is 20-32 hrs per week, M-F
Pay Ranges: $19.00 - $26.00 (based on education & experience)
Paid Holidays: Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, MLK Day, President’s Day and Memorial Day. (2-weeks off in Dec & 1-week off in April)
Duties and Obligations of Employee: As Lead Teacher you are responsible for registering in the DCYF MERIT system and maintaining your records and all other licensing requirements in the MERIT system.
The Lead Teacher is also responsible for:
- Understanding the ways children develop and continually improving their own learning and professional practice as a teacher who guides and supports that development.
- Establishing an engaging learning environment that is child centered and will support the learning of a diverse group of children with unique learning needs.
- Cultivating positive relationships between children, families, staff and their larger community to strengthen the foundation for healthy learning and child development.
- Setting up and maintaining the classroom and the outdoor learning environment.
- Using student interests and class dynamics to plan an emergent curriculum and provide learning opportunities that are age and developmentally appropriate; aligning with the schools philosophy.
- Daily class and child documentation such that each child has an individualized portfolio at the end of the school year.
- Attending school events and scheduled staff meetings.
- Supporting each child’s social- emotional and intellectual growth and development.
- Closing down the classroom at the end of each day including emptying the trash, sweeping floors, cleaning tabletops, and general tidying up.
- Following all health and safety guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing throughout the school as required by the CDC or DCYF.
- Greets parents and support with explaining classroom procedures when questions arise.
Maintains professionalism according to the employee handbook.
Professional Qualifications:
Must have a high school diploma & 18 years of age.
Must have your initial certificate at a minimum or 12 college units in ECE.
Prior experience working with children.
Organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
First Aid, Infant and Child CPR, BBP training and certification, Food handler permit, negative TB test (to be completed upon hire).
Friendly and nurturing disposition.
Knowledge of basic childcare principles.
