Essential Job Functions
- Coordinate and generate daily, weekly and monthly task lists and assign to Arena maintenance staff in City asset management system and report to Managers.
- Completes daily requests for service and asset management system work orders, including but not limited to; production reports, crew schedules, log of activities, etc.
- Maintain accurate records of facility system maintenance, repairs and inspections including arena ammonia system.
- Maintains all aspects of the arena in good working order including but not limited to, office space(s), programmed areas, outside envelope, restrooms, spectator areas, entries and exits, storage areas and the equipment spaces.
- Assist the Manager in developing arena health and safety protocols and identify training opportunities for subordinate staff.
- Assist Managers in writing standard operating procedures for the maintenance of Arena
- Assist the Manager in the creation of signage, banners, decals etc. for the facility and ice surface.
- Assists crewmembers in cleaning, maintenance and repair work at Arena
- Regularly engages the public and user groups at the arena and provides guidance, information and direction regarding arena policies and ice schedule.
- Maintains safe entry and exit points/emergency exits throughout the facility, including snow and ice removal during winter months.
- Identify, schedule and plan ongoing project list.
- Operates the ice resurfacing machine, edgers and other equipment related to arena operations.
- Maintain an on-going list of all projects to be completed during both the skating season and shutdown, prioritize and schedule projects.
- Assists Managers with evaluation and training of crewmembers.
- Ensures established Department and Federal safety procedures are followed.
- Assist in planning of HVAC related projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints
- Assists the Manager in sourcing outside vendor assistance, scheduling vendors and contractors for arena related work, and overseeing contractors working on arena infrastructure or equipment.
- Requisitions required materials and information to complete maintenance or projects in a manner consistent with Department policies and procedures.
- Maintains and manages an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment on premises. Reorders supplies and inventory as necessary.
- Monitors, troubleshoots and seeks assistance as necessary to maintain arena equipment and infrastructure.
- Reports outages, schedule changes and impacts to the Manager and rink personnel.
- Maintains control over progress and quality of work in accordance with departmental goals, objectives and standards.
- Participates in the hiring process including but not limited to screening, rating, interviewing and recommending applicants.
- Participates in regular maintenance, departmental, or contractor meetings, either in person or virtually, to represent the arena.
- Assists the manager in scheduling, communicating and follow-up for required and non-required staff training.
- Acts as “Ambassador” for Parks Recreation & Waterfront, carrying out work in a manner consistent with Department Mission and Vision.
- Performs duties and functions of subordinate positions.
- Assists in training and supervising staff in the operation of all vehicles, equipment, apparatus and technology applications necessary for effective facility, events, and operations.
- Other duties as assigned, including operation of various types of equipment, including but not limited to special duties for any City programs and departments on a seasonal or project basis.
- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- High School Diploma equivalent.
- Two years of experience in Arena operations required.
- Experience in commercial maintenance required. Background in carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing preferred.
- Experience preferred of utilizing a computer and software applications to monitor building and equipment systems, timekeeping, and Microsoft Office for email, schedules, documents and spreadsheets.
- US Ice Rink Association Certified Ice Technician certification preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Certified Ice Technician certification required within four years of hire.
- Ability to act independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance while engaging in field work, and refrain from any use of profanity, inappropriate language, or inappropriate behavior required.
- Ability to provide direction and/or work with volunteers and temporary employees.
- Experience operating an ice resurfacer preferred.
- Operate all Parks equipment in accordance with Department policies and procedures.
- Must interact with the public in a respectful and professional manner at all times.
- Utilize personal safety equipment in accordance with all VOSHA and department policies and procedures.
- Ability to operate, front-end loader, edger and other power tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
