MAJOR FUNCTION: The Aquatics Director is responsible for the effective, efficient, and safe operation of all aquatic facilities and programs, ensuring staff development, regulatory compliance, and high-quality member experiences. This role is primarily focused on department leadership, strategic oversight, and program excellence, while also performing hands-on operational and maintenance tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations, support staff, and maintain high standards.
1. Department Leadership & Staff Management
- Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and, if necessary, terminate aquatic staff.
- Develop a professional culture, encouraging certifications, continuing education, and career growth.
- Schedule and approve staff hours; ensure adequate coverage for all aquatic activities.
- Mentor and coach staff to ensure high-quality instruction, lifeguarding, and aquatic operations.
2. Strategic Planning & Program Oversight
- Develop and implement long-term departmental goals and strategies aligned with the Club’s mission and vision.
- Evaluate and enhance aquatic programs, ensuring high-quality instruction, member satisfaction, and inclusivity for all ages and skill levels.
- Plan, promote, and oversee swim lessons, lifeguard training, CPR/first aid classes, swim team, and dive programs.
- Monitor program performance and adjust offerings to meet membership needs.
3. Compliance & Safety Oversight
- Ensure aquatic facilities operate in full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain oversight of water quality testing, pool maintenance schedules, and facility inspections; delegate hands-on tasks to qualified staff or contractors.
- Develop, implement, and enforce emergency procedures, including accident response, weather-related closures, and first-aid protocols.
- Maintain audit-ready records of safety procedures, water quality, and staff certifications.
4. Facility & Equipment Oversight
- Oversee and manage all pool maintenance by creating maintenance schedules, assigning tasks to staff or contractors, and ensuring compliance with safety, health, and industry standards. to ensure all aquatic facilities and equipment are safe, operational, and well-maintained.
- Work with General Manager to develop, coordinate, and manage preventative maintenance schedules, capital equipment planning, and repair requests.
- Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and safety of aquatic areas, offices, storage, and pump rooms through staff supervision.
5. Communication & Member Engagement
- Maintain up-to-date aquatic information on the Club’s website, bulletin boards, and other communication channels.
- Provide timely updates to members regarding programming, safety, and operational changes.
- Serve as a visible leader and representative of the Aquatics Department at events, programs, and meetings.
- Collect feedback from members to continuously improve aquatic services and programs.
6. Collaboration & Organizational Contribution
- Work closely with the General Manager, coaches, Parent Representatives, and other departments to coordinate overlapping activities and ensure consistency in standards.
- Participate in committees or meetings as required to support the Club’s strategic goals.
- Stay informed on regional and national aquatics trends, certifications, and best practices.
7. General Duties
- Perform other responsibilities and projects as assigned by the General Manager or Board of Directors.
- Maintain professionalism and positive member interactions at all times.
- Work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed based on program schedules.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school graduate or higher, college degree preferred.
· Minimum 3 years experience as an aquatic supervisor.
· Minimum 3 years experience as a swim instructor. Competitive swim instruction preferred.
· ARC Lifeguard certification.
· Certified Pool Operators certification or willingness to attain within the first 90 days of employment.
· ARC Lifeguard Training certification or willingness to attain when available.
· Swim America instructor certification or willingness to attain within first 90 days of employment.
· Minimum American Swim Coaches Association Level 2 certification or willingness to attain in first 90 days of employment.
· Knowledge of pool pump operations.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Good organizational and personnel administration.
· Mature and responsible individual who conducts themselves in a professional manner.
· Team player. Positive attitude toward members, guests, co-workers, vendors, and others interacting with the club.
· Demonstrates strong work ethic. Commitment to quality work, self-starter, self-disciplined and flexible.
· Goal oriented.
