Membership Sales Director - Martial Arts Academy

Burke's Martial Arts
Providence, RI Full Time
POSTED ON 7/10/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/6/2026

Who we are

Burke's Martial Arts is a martial arts academy in Providence. Not a gym. An academy, roughly 10,000 square feet, teaching two programs: authentic Muay Thai and Vee Arnis Jitsu self-defense. People walk in wanting skill, confidence, and the ability to protect themselves and their families. They walk out different people. That transformation is the actual product, and it's the reason this academy exists.

What this job is

You own the student journey from the first inquiry to the long-term member. When a lead comes in, you're on the phone fast. You book them, you get them to show up, you sit with them after their first class and help them say yes. Once they're members, you watch the attendance, you notice who's slipping before they disappear, and you make the retention calls that keep people from quitting on themselves. You handle renewals, upgrades, billing questions, and account changes. You're on the floor during evening classes talking to students, because that's where the job lives, not behind a desk.

You'll also hold pads for beginners and walk them through the basics of striking. You don't need to be a fighter. You do need to train, or genuinely want to start. If a brand new person asks you a question about the training and you have no answer and no interest, you can't sell this, because you can't sell a transformation you don't believe in.

The schedule, honestly

This is a salaried position, 40 hours plus. A typical day starts around 10 AM, runs a few hours, breaks for two or three hours midday, then comes back for the full evening class block, because evenings are when the students are here. Saturdays are short days, usually done by 1 or 2 PM. A few times a year there are weekend events, trade shows, farmers markets, community demos.

Here's the truth most job posts won't print: there is a monthly enrollment goal, and not making the goal is not acceptable. If the goal takes more than 40 hours, you put in the hours. If your idea of a job is watching the clock and bolting when it strikes, this isn't your job. We don't believe in work life balance here. We believe in work life choices, and every choice has consequences. The right person reads that and nods.

What you get

$800 a week base, guaranteed, paid all 52 weeks of the year, including the weeks the academy is closed. On top of that, uncapped monthly performance bonuses on new enrollments and upgrades.

Then there's the part that separates this from every other sales job on this board: you get 10% of everything the academy grosses over $30,000 a month. Every month. No cap. Grow the academy to $40,000 a month and that's an extra $1,000 a month on top of your base and bonuses. Real martial arts schools run past $100,000 a month, and at that level the profit share alone is $7,000 a month. Your income scales with what you build. A hustler who isn't afraid of the hours and refuses to miss the goal turns this into a six-figure seat. The full structure is covered at the interview.

You also train free. Staff train twice a week at no cost, and if you're making the goal, you can train every single night if you want, real Muay Thai and real self-defense taught at a standard you will not find anywhere else in Rhode Island. Make the goal, live on the mats. And you get something most jobs can't offer: you will watch people change their lives in front of you, and you'll be one of the reasons it happened.

Do not apply if

You're looking for a paycheck and a place to coast. You've never trained and have no interest in starting. You can't pick up a phone and make thirty calls in a day. You need someone standing over you to do your job. You think sales is a dirty word.
