Job Purpose
Responsible for the overall operation of the school nutrition program, including meal preparation, food safety, inventory control, financial accountability, staff supervision, and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Essential Functions
- Supervise daily cafeteria operations and staff.
• Ensure compliance with USDA, NCDPI, and local health regulations.
• Maintain meal counts, production records, inventories, and financial reports.
• Order food and supplies and manage inventory.
• Monitor food quality, portion control, and customer service.
• Train, evaluate, and schedule cafeteria employees.
• Maintain sanitation and HACCP standards.
• Coordinate with school administration and Child Nutrition Services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of food service management and school nutrition programs.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and financial accountability.
• Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
• Three years of food service experience required.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• School nutrition experience preferred.
• Completion of USDA Professional Standards training requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to work in varying kitchen temperatures.
Professional Standards
Must meet all annual USDA and North Carolina Child Nutrition Professional Standards training requirements.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with Burke County Public Schools procedures.
