School Nutrition Program Assistant Job Description
Qualifications: 1. Ability to perform duties assigned on job.
a. lifting items up to 50 pounds
b. work in extreme temperatures and humidity
c. handle chemicals for cleaning that could be hazardous if not properly handled
d. stand and work for extended periods
2. Knows basic food preparation and sanitation principals. (desirable)
Supervised by: School Nutrition Program Manager
Job Goal: To produce and serve meals meeting school meal pattern requirements to students in a pleasant, efficient and sanitary manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under the direct supervision of the School Nutrition Manager, the School Nutrition Assistant prepares and serves meals in an efficient, sanitary manner that meets the regulations of USDA.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Knowledge, Skills and Physical Demands:
● Reports for work neat and clean.
● Follow the work schedule as prepared by the manager.
● Prepares food by following standardized recipes.
● Cooks food following the batch cooking method.
● Monitors temperatures of food on serving lines to ensure that no food approaches the
danger zone.
● Remove trash and garbage frequently to avoid build-up.
● Washes hands at appropriate times and wears gloves appropriately.
● Utilize work simplification techniques.
● Complete daily assigned work and assist fellow staff as needed – then report to the
manager for other duties.
● Work as a team player.
● Operates and helps maintain (daily) all equipment in the kitchen under the direction of
the manager.
● Follows sanitary rules for food handling, keeps the work area clean and sanitary and does
other cleaning as assigned.
● Follow safety rules and regulations.
● Relates effectively to children, adults and fellow employees.
● Serves food using portion control and sanitary techniques.
● Participates in training sponsored by the county for School Nutrition Program Personnel.
● As a new employee, attends any training required by the county or state.
● Wears School Nutrition Program uniform.
● Report faulty equipment or safety hazards to the manager.
● Assists in unloading and storage of all foods and supplies.
● Assists with inventories as needed.
● Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the School Nutrition Manager or
Assistant Manager.
