Hiring Range: $63,444.00 - $76,132.00 ($30.50 - $36.60 per hour, dependent on qualifications)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position promotes public health and safety through education, inspection, and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Position requires approximately 40 hours of work per workweek. Position duties will be primarily in On-site Wastewater.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To successfully perform this position, an individual must be able to perform the following:
- Enforces federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Maintains accurate records of site inspections
- Drives to, inspects, and evaluates lots to determine suitability for on-site sewage and disposal systems
- Primarily inspects and permits within the On-site Wastewater and Wells programs
- Interacts with, educates, and assists with the general public via telephone, email, or in person to provide support, information, and assistance with documents, programs, or systems maintained or developed by the Environmental Health Department
- Maintains licenses and certifications through trainings, courses, and continuing education
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree from a program that is accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC); or,
Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree in public health and one year of experience in the field of environmental health practice; or
Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in the physical, biological, natural, life, or health sciences and one year of experience in the field of environmental health practice.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Vision requirements, with or without corrective lenses, include: close and distant vision, ability to adjust focus, depth and color perception, and peripheral visions
- Occasionally lifts more than one hundred (25) pounds
- Occasionally spends time sitting
- Frequently lifts up to fifty (25) pounds
- Frequently spends time speaking or hearing, using hands or fingers to handle, feel, type, or text, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, and engaging in repetitive motions
- Working in situations without following safety measures and not wearing appropriate personal protective equipment ("PPE") may result in situations that could result in total disability, critical illness, or loss of life
- Working conditions may include:
- Individuals are occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibrations, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens
- Individuals are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions
- Individuals frequently work near moving mechanical parts
- Subjected to considerable mental effort and potential stressful situations during day to day operations
- Frequently exposed to loud noises
