Qualifications:
Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified:- Must possess (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position.

This position has a Basic Education Requirement (BER). Have a bachelor's degree with a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in biological science, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
GS-07: Meet the basic requirements AND I have one (1) year of experience as a Wild Horse and Burro Specialist or related position equivalent to GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience may include knowledge of wild horse and burro or wildlife management principles, and/or range management principles, theories, and practices; assisting higher level professionals with the preparation of wild horse and burro planning documents; wild horse and burro population monitoring, planning, and conducting range studies; OR one (1) year of graduate education leading to a master's degree in biological sciences or a directly related field, OR Meet the requirements for Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A), OR meet the basic requirement AND possess an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work of this position involves a combination of office and field work. The trainee must be able to perform field assignments that require strenuous walking, riding horseback, and climbing over rough and mountainous terrain. The work also involves heavy lifting, bending, and working horses up to 1500 pounds, as well as lifting hay bales up to 100 pounds, metal panels, construction materials, and wire rope.
Must be able to fly in small fixed or rotary wing aircraft in order to conduct aerial inventories of WH&B populations.
Incumbent must be able to operate four-wheel drive vehicles in rugged terrain.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in a well-lighted and ventilated room. Field work is performed in environments varying from flat to steep and rock terrain, as well as in corrals with exposure to the hazards of working with untamed animals in confined spaces. Temperatures vary from below zero to over 100 degrees. Safety precautions require use of protective safety apparel.
