Position Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations across Burch Farms’ facilities, including packing lines, processing equipment, warehouse infrastructure, and supporting systems. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, operational reliability, and facility safety while supporting production goals.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, improving equipment performance, and implementing preventative maintenance programs. The ideal candidate is hands-on, solutions-driven, and capable of building and leading a strong maintenance team in a fast-paced agricultural environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance Operations
- Oversee all day-to-day maintenance activities for production, packing, and warehouse equipment
- Ensure reliability and performance of graders, conveyors, washing systems, packing lines, and processing equipment
- Maintain facility infrastructure including electrical, plumbing, refrigeration (if applicable), and structural systems
- Respond quickly to equipment failures to minimize downtime and production disruption
Preventative Maintenance & Reliability
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program
- Establish maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion of all tasks
- Track equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency
- Maintain spare parts inventory and manage vendor relationships
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and develop maintenance technicians
- Build a culture of accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement
- Schedule staff to ensure coverage across shifts and seasonal demands
- Provide hands-on support and leadership on the floor
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety standards and regulations
- Enforce OSHA, GMP, and company safety policies
- Support food safety initiatives by maintaining equipment in sanitary and operational condition
- Lead safety training and promote a safe working environment
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements to reduce downtime and maintenance costs
- Support lean initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across operations
- Work closely with Operations Manager to optimize production efficiency
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and repair records
- Track maintenance KPIs such as downtime, response time, and repair costs
- Assist in budgeting and cost control for maintenance operations
- Coordinate with external contractors and service providers when needed
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of maintenance experience, preferably in agriculture, food processing, or manufacturing
- Proven leadership experience managing maintenance teams
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with preventative maintenance systems and equipment reliability
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with produce packing equipment or agricultural operations
- Knowledge of refrigeration systems and food-grade equipment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
