What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Assurance Technician position at Buona Vita Inc?
1. General Responsibilities
- Keeps production room floor clean of excessive meat debris,
- Follow General Manufacturing Practices including hand washing, use of Personal Protective Equipment – hairnets, ear plugs, eye protection, gloves, coats and other as required, color codes and BVI workplace rules,
- Follow all safety rules – It is important that the employee not place themselves or others in peril,
- Report any issue that could compromise food safety or quality to supervisors or quality personnel,
- Food Defense - Keep external doors closed and locked. Report any unusual or suspicious behavior to supervisor.
2. Specific Job Duties
- Assist QA Manager with planning, prioritizing, and completing tasks; recommend changes in procedures, standards, sample methods and equipment to improve food safety and quality,
- Performing inspections and record keeping of work-in-process and finished products through inspection. Analysis includes visual, weight, size, temperature, etc. at pre-set time periods control points monitoring of the HACCP program (temperature logs, sanitation, labeling checks, net weight, package integrity, metal detection, package integrity checks, etc.),
- Perform Pre-Op and Operational Inspections and document including environmental sampling/swabbing of the production area,
- Perform in-process cGMP checks (personnel cGMP, waste containers, proper tools and chemical storage, sanitizer, towels, storage, and proper usage etc.),
- Calibrate test equipment-Scales and Thermometers. Ensure thermometer calibration logs are complete,
- Successfully and accurately document Food Safety and Quality Assurance daily tasks.
- Monitor / evaluate cleanliness of equipment and work areas as these must be kept organized, clean and sanitary throughout the shift. Ensure proper care of equipment,
- Assist in internal and external food safety and security inspections/audits,
- Inspect production rooms, Coolers, Freezers, and dry storage areas for out of specification products or other issues such as expiry date products and proper allergen segregation,
- Advise/respond to any identified risk in the operation under QA Manager’s supervision.
3. Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required,
- 0-5 years of experience in Quality Control/Assurance in food industry is preferred,
- Must be able to work flexible hours,
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time,
- Must be able to climb, bend, and lift up to 10 lbs regularly, up to 30 lbs. periodically,
- Must be able to remain in designated area for various 10 minutes interval checks,
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general record keeping forms and inspection records.
4. Knowledge and competencies
- Experience in completing forms, and otherwise communicating in writing anything that may be passed on to an employee, vendor, customer, auditor, or members of management,
- Must be able to read and interpret basic written instructions and perform tasks and projects derived from written instructions. Understand, read, speak, and write in English,
- The employee must have the ability to work with milk, egg, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, and soybean products in addition to many other ingredients and allergens.
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
