Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Service Leader – Environmental Due Diligence to lead our site assessment and redevelopment services. This position will focus on managing and executing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and supporting Brownfields redevelopment efforts.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in real estate and transactional due diligence, a working knowledge of federal and state cleanup programs, and the ability to lead projects, mentor staff, and manage client relationships. This position reports to the Department Manager and plays a key role in the delivery and growth of the due diligence service line.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field.
  • Professional registration or certification preferred (e.g., PE, PG, CHMM)
  • 5 years of experience in performing and managing environmental due diligence projects.
  • Strong understanding of ASTM standards for Phase I/II ESAs and AAI requirements.
  • Familiarity with Brownfields programs, state cleanup frameworks, and redevelopment planning.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in financial management tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with real estate, financial, or public sector clients.?
  • Knowledge of vapor intrusion assessments and risk evaluation methods.?
  • Familiarity with grant-funded Brownfields assessments and EPA or state lead cooperative agreements.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Manage and execute a wide range of due diligence projects, including:
    • ASTM-compliant Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
    • Phase II investigations involving soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling
    • Brownfields assessments and redevelopment planning
  • Oversee preparation of work plans, sampling strategies, and technical reports.
  • Ensure timely delivery, regulatory compliance, and technical quality.

Client Engagement

  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients, including real estate developers, lenders, attorneys, and public agencies.
  • Interpret and communicate environmental risks in the context of property transactions.
  • Provide strategic support during acquisitions, divestitures, and redevelopment planning.

Regulatory & Program Knowledge

  • Navigate federal and state Brownfields and voluntary cleanup programs (e.g., EPA, state VCPs).
  • Understand risk-based cleanup approaches and liability protections (e.g., AAI, BFPP).
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies as needed for site closure, eligibility, or approvals.

Client and Team Coordination

  • Provide technical guidance and QA/QC review for junior and mid-level staff.
  • Assist with field oversight, training, and development of standard procedures.
  • Collaborate with other service leads and internal teams on multidisciplinary projects.

Business Support

  • Develop scopes of work and cost estimates for due diligence projects.
  • Assist in proposal writing and pursuit of new opportunities.
  • Contribute to client retention, service expansion, and internal growth initiatives.
