The Wine Educator hosts tours, private experiences, heritage tastings, and other intimate engagements on property. This role requires a passion for wine education, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to connect authentically with guests while representing the history, family legacy, and wines of Bundschu Co.
The Wine Educator also serves as a mentor and leader within the team, contributing to ongoing education and supporting the development of Tasting Room Concierge and Runners.
Key Responsibilities
Wine Knowledge & Education
- Demonstrate strong expertise in wine education, viticulture, and Bundschu Co. history
- Actively participate in and contribute to internal wine education programs and curriculum development
- Maintain deep knowledge of small-production and featured wines (e.g., Heritage wines, Bundschu Cabernet, etc.)
- Commit to ongoing, self-driven wine education
Guest Experience & Brand Ambassadorship
- Serve as the lead educator and host for tours, private tastings, and heritage experiences
- Deliver engaging, personalized, and high-touch guest experiences
- Represent the Bundschu Co. brand with authenticity, warmth, and professionalism
- Build meaningful relationships with guests through storytelling and connection
Sales Excellence
- Integrate wine education with a strong focus on sales
- Confidently ask for the sale and guide guests through purchasing decisions
- Take ownership of achieving retail goals, including wine sales, wine club sign-ups, and guest data collection
Team Collaboration & Adaptability
- Support operations across multiple service areas, including the Tasting Room, Courtyard, Donkey, and Rhinefarm tastings
- Collaborate cross-functionally with DTC and other departments
- Participate in virtual tastings and outbound guest engagement efforts
- Adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a team-first mindset
Customer Service Excellence
- Anticipate and respond to guest needs with care and attention
- Engage guests in a way that reflects the brand’s values and hospitality standards
- Maintain a positive, enthusiastic, and solution-oriented approach in all interactions
Professionalism
- Uphold high standards of appearance, communication, and conduct
- Maintain a polished and professional presence in all guest-facing environments
- Ensure back-of-house behaviors (e.g., cell phone use, eating, drinking) remain out of guest view
- Communicate with respect and professionalism with both guests and team members
Systems & Operations
- Demonstrate proficiency (or strong coachability) with POS/AMS systems
- Accurately process transactions, including retail sales, shipping orders, and will-call pickups
- Maintain and update guest information within the customer management system
- Apply strong problem-solving skills and remain open to feedback and coaching
Work Style
- Work independently to set up, execute, and close out tastings and tours
- Contribute as a collaborative team member in high-volume service areas
- Navigate diverse personalities and shifting priorities with flexibility and professionalism
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the wine industry required
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
- Experience with POS systems (or willingness to learn)
- Professional, personable, and guest-focused demeanor
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to:
- Lift and carry up to 40 pounds
- Stand and walk for extended periods (6–8 hours per shift)
- Bend, reach, and maintain full range of motion during service
