A Rental Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining a wide variety of rental equipment and vehicles. This position requires hands-on mechanical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on:
- Lawn and garden equipment
- Chainsaws, blowers, trimmers, and mowers
- Generators, compressors, and pumps
- Skid steers, mini excavators, excavators, and dozers
- Trailers and towable equipment
- Work trucks and fleet vehicles
- Hydraulic, diesel, gas, and electrical systems
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues
- Complete equipment inspections before and after rentals
- Perform oil changes, tune-ups, filter replacements, and fluid services
- Repair engines, drivetrains, brakes, steering, and suspension systems
- Weld, fabricate, or modify equipment when necessary
- Maintain organized service records and repair documentation
- Ensure equipment is safe, clean, and rental-ready
- Respond to field service calls and emergency breakdowns when needed
- Maintain a clean and organized shop environment
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
- Assist customers with basic equipment operation and loading when required
Qualifications
- Experience working on small engines, heavy equipment, or fleet vehicles preferred
- Strong understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Ability to diagnose equipment issues efficiently
- Basic welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely
- Valid driver’s license required
- CDL preferred but not required
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in indoor/outdoor environments
- Self-motivated with strong work ethic and problem-solving skills
