Job Summary:
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer architects and designs new mechanical systems for highly innovative safety products.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None, however, leadership experience and a player/coach mindset are crucial. You will work hands-on and informally lead more junior team members.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead and implement the mechanical requirements, design, development, and validation of new life-saving electromechanical products.
- Establish product specifications including design objectives, product features, cost targets, and deadlines based upon project requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product definition is clear, complete, and achievable and are consistent with market and product research data. Participation in qualitative research activities with end users.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional project team with contributors from product management, product development, sales, manufacturing and operations services to develop and validate new products that meet product specifications.
- Develop testing and evaluation protocols and design experiments as well as oversee the evaluation of related product systems and components.
- Analyze test and product evaluation data and present the results.
Skills/Experience:
- Experience in product categories that involve personal protective equipment that impact a user’s comfort, protect against impacts (falling objects, slips/trips/falls) and/or protect breathing (air purification, flow, etc.)
- Engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)
- Strong mechanical or mechatronics engineering background
- Injection molded plastics design experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated CAD experience, especially with SolidWorks
- Fluid dynamics, especially with compressible fluid flow
- Experience in the following areas is a plus:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Air filtration design
- Respirators
- Computational fluid dynamics
- Experience in testing and failure mode analysis
- Experience with Designing for Manufacturability and Assembly
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes
- Excellent communicator and able to make good analysis presentations
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team environment
- Self-starter with a passion for problem-solving and enthusiastic advocacy for the customers’ needs, the products, and the company
Education and Experience:
- B.S. in an Engineering discipline
- 10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering of new products or related
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing
- Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and other standard office equipment.
Location:
This position will be based in Lexington, KY with routine and frequent travel as needed.
