What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Dock Hand position at BULL RIVER MARINA?
Bull River Marina in Savannah, GA is looking for some seasonal dock hands to join out team. We are a small family business marina located on Wilmington island, 6 miles from downtown Savannah. We run a small fleet of charter vessels and boat rentals. We also provide marina services to boats coming off the Atlantic as well as inland riverways year-round.
Job Summary:
The Dockhand position is there to serve the needs of guests entering the marina by land or sea and to assist the captains and other staff with the needs of our boats. Dockhands will assist with luggage being boarded onto charter vessels, assist customers at our bait shop and within the marina store as needed. Dockhands can be promoted to First Mate and Tour Guides and more as we help develop your skills and training. Job requirements / Qualifications:
- Must be 18 or older
- Greets & assists members to Marina and on vessel for departure and returning.
- Provide exceptional member service.
- Complete opening and closing duties as per your shift needs
- Maintain the marina, docks and surrounding area in a clean and organized manner.
- Responsible for boat cleanliness, safety gear as well as dock equipment and safety gear
- Will learn line-handling with anchor lines, knots, etc.
- Assist and support special events at the marina.
- Assist in operations as requested by management.

Physical Requirements:
- Work tasks may be performed both indoors and outdoors.
- Will encounter variable outdoor weather conditions, including hot, cold, windy and wet weather. Safety and weather gear will be provided if needed or upon request..
- MUST be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- MUST be able to bend, reach , kneel and have full range of body motion to navigate the docks and boats docked at our marina. Must be able to step on and off a vessel. * Walking from parking lot to marina office will consist of a couple thousand feet per day.
- Any shellfish allergies or allergies of any sort MUST be discussed with marina Mgt for safety reasons. We have shrimpers, crabbers, and bait sold at marina.
Requirements:
- Will be required to complete the boaters safety course, or provide a copy of your boaters safety card after being hired. This is required for anyone working with boats and before you are able to operate any of Bull River Marina's vessels.
- Any dockhands/first mates that works for Bull River Marina will be required to join our drug consortium required by the USCG.
