The Role
The Crisis Intervention Behavioral Specialist provides intensive 1:1 behavioral support to a student in a school setting who requires a high level of structure, consistency, and behavioral expertise to safely and successfully access their educational environment.
Student needs may include significant behavioral dysregulation, difficulty with emotional regulation, limited coping skills, and a need for frequent adult support throughout the school day. This role requires strong behavioral judgment, collaboration with school teams, and consistent implementation of individualized behavior intervention plans.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide direct 1:1 behavioral intervention in a school setting in accordance with the student’s treatment plan
- Implement individualized behavior intervention and crisis-response strategies with fidelity
- Utilize preventative strategies, proactive supports, and de-escalation techniques to promote safety and skill development
- Develop and implement targeted strategies to reduce interfering behaviors and increase functional, adaptive behaviors through positive reinforcement
- Maintain calm, structured, and professional responses during challenging situations
- Provide ongoing assessment of progress and communicate updates through written and verbal documentation
- Collaborate closely with teachers, school staff, clinicians, and ancillary service providers (OT, PT, Speech)
- Participate in team meetings and supervision
- Maintain accurate daily documentation related to behavior and skill acquisition
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field OR
RBT certification with relevant experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with students or individuals with intensive behavioral or mental health needs
- Demonstrated experience supporting students whose behaviors significantly impact their learning or the learning of others
- Ability to follow behavior intervention plans, safety protocols, and crisis procedures consistently
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a DHW criminal background check (provided)
- CPR/First Aid certification (provided)
- 40-hour RBT training in ABA (provided if not already certified)
Professional Expectations
- Demonstrate strong understanding of behavior intervention principles for students with significant behavioral challenges
- Implement research-based strategies with consistency and reliability
- Collect and maintain accurate behavioral data
- Adhere to all State and Federal guidelines, including Mandated Reporting, HIPAA, and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse policies
- Maintain professional boundaries and collaborate respectfully with school and clinical teams
