VP of Sales
Location Remote — US

Base Salary $90,000–$100,000

About BuildTools
BuildTools has been serving custom home builders and luxury remodelers since 2012. We built our reputation on understanding how builders actually work — managing projects, subcontractors, budgets, and clients all at once, often from a job site with spotty cell service and zero patience for slow software.
We're launching a fully rebuilt, AI-first platform designed for the way the industry works today. Mobile-first. QuickBooks-native. Smarter at every step — from specs to scheduling to subcontractor compliance. We've got 12 years of product credibility and a brand-new platform ready to take to market.
This is a leadership opportunity at a company that knows its industry and has built something worth selling.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a VP of Sales to lead our go-to-market effort and own the number — personally and as a team. You'll carry your own quota while building, coaching, and expanding a sales team underneath you. Initially you'll be working alongside one sales rep, with the expectation that you'll grow that team as we scale.
This is a player/coach role by design. We want someone who can sell — and who wants to build something bigger than themselves. You'll have direct access to the founder, genuine influence on product direction, and the runway to grow into a full sales leadership position as headcount expands.
What You'll Do
Own the Number
Carry personal revenue targets alongside team quota accountability
Run consultative demos and close deals at the high end of the pipeline
Define and refine the sales playbook — qualification criteria, demo structure, objection handling, close cadence
Lead and Develop the Team
Hire, coach, and develop sales reps as the team grows
Set weekly and monthly targets, run pipeline reviews, and hold the team accountable
Build the infrastructure — CRM hygiene, reporting, cadences — that a scaling team needs
Shape Go-to-Market Strategy
Own ICP definition and refine it as the market responds to the new platform
Partner with marketing on messaging, campaign targeting, and lead quality
Feed buyer intelligence — objections, competitive landscape, feature gaps — directly into product and marketing
Represent the Brand
Build presence in custom builder associations, peer networks, and industry events
Develop referral and channel relationships that generate compounding pipeline
Serve as a senior face of BuildTools in the market
What We're Looking For
5 years of B2B SaaS sales with a track record of consistently hitting quota
Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring a sales team — even a small one
Can sell and coach simultaneously — not looking to step out of the deal flow
Strong command of the full sales cycle: outreach, discovery, demo, negotiation, close
Comfortable selling directly to owners and decision-makers at growing businesses
Organized, data-driven, and able to build and run a clean pipeline
Strongly Preferred
Experience selling construction, field service, trades, or project management software
Familiarity with how custom home builders and remodelers actually run their businesses
Background at an early-stage or growth-stage SaaS company where you helped shape the sales motion
Experience building out a team from a small base — hiring, onboarding, ramping reps
Nice to Have
Fluency with HubSpot or similar CRM
Familiarity with AI-powered software or enthusiasm for selling emerging technology
Existing relationships in the custom building or luxury remodeling space
What Success Looks Like
In your first 30 days
Know the product, the buyer, and the competitive landscape cold
Have personally completed demos and started building your own active pipeline
Assessed the current rep, established a coaching rhythm, and identified quick wins
By 90 days
Closed personal deals and established a repeatable outreach and demo cadence
Have direct input on sales playbook, ICP, and team structure recommendations
Running independently with full ownership of the number
By 12 months
Hit or exceed personal and team ARR targets
Have begun expanding the team and have a clear view on the next two hires
Operating as a true VP — setting strategy, not just executing it
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $90,000–$100,000
Commission: Uncapped — designed to reward personal production and team performance
Remote: Work from anywhere in the US
Direct access to the founder and real influence on product and strategy
Clear path to full VP-level leadership as team headcount grows
Ground-floor upside in a relaunching platform with 12 years of industry credibility
Who Thrives Here
You've built pipeline and you've built people. You know what a good rep looks like because you were one — and you're not done proving it.
You're energized by a blank whiteboard. You want to own the playbook, not inherit it. You're the type who closes deals on Monday and runs a pipeline review on Tuesday.
If you're looking to lead a sales function from the ground up, sell a product that actually solves real problems for real builders, and grow with a company that has the credibility of 12 years and the momentum of a brand-new platform — let's talk.
Send a brief note about your background, what drew you to this role, and one example of a sales team or process you built or improved — along with your resume — to the hiring team. No formal cover letter required, but tell us something real.
