Building Minds in South Sudan (BMISS) is a Rochester, New York-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving literacy, educational access, economic opportunity, and gender equality through community-based educational programs and the construction of schools in South Sudan.
We are seeking a passionate and well-connected community leader to serve as our Board Member & Chair of the Development Committee. This volunteer leadership position is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, connecting people with meaningful causes, and helping nonprofit organizations grow their impact.
We're Looking For Someone Who- Has experience in fundraising, business development, sales, philanthropy, or nonprofit leadership
- Has strong relationships within the Greater Rochester, NY business, philanthropic, or civic community
- Enjoys cultivating relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners
- Has experience leading committees or strategic initiatives
- Believes education changes lives
- Is passionate about expanding educational opportunities in underserved communities, especially for girls and young women
- Chair the Board's Development Committee
- Lead the organization's annual fundraising strategy
- Identify new sponsorship and partnership opportunities
- Help cultivate individual, corporate, and foundation donors
- Support annual fundraising events and campaigns
- Assist with long-term donor stewardship
- Recruit volunteers and ambassadors who can expand BMISS's reach
- Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for BMISS throughout the Rochester community
- Four Board meetings annually (combination of in-person and virtual meetings)
- Additional volunteer time varies depending on fundraising initiatives and events
Every dollar raised helps build schools, support literacy initiatives, and create educational opportunities for children who otherwise may never have access to quality education.
