Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Nursery Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of our horticultural operations. In this vital role, you will be responsible for cultivating healthy plants, managing the yard, and ensuring the smooth operation of nursery activities. Your expertise will create lively outdoor and greenhouse environments for landscape projects. This position offers a good blend of outside activity amongst our thousands of plants as well as indoor administrative duties.
Duties
- Supervise daily nursery operations, including planting, pruning, garden trimming, and landscape maintenance
- Manage irrigation systems and irrigation management to optimize water use and plant health
- Oversee greenhouse cultivation processes, ensuring optimal environmental conditions through agricultural environmental control systems
- Manage inventory counts and ensure the business has what it needs to complete the scheduled projects
- Conduct plant identification to ensure proper care and disease prevention
- Maintain equipment such as hand tools and mechanical systems used in nursery, landscaping, and lawn care tasks
Qualifications
- Proven experience with a strong understanding of horticulture principles
- Knowledge of irrigation systems, including irrigation management and agricultural environmental control systems
- Hands-on experience with integrated pest management (IPM), and plant pest control strategies
- Ability to manage horticultural teams effectively while maintaining high standards of safety and productivity
- Familiarity with greenhouse cultivation techniques, garden trimming, lawn care, farming practices, and landscaping projects
- Mechanical knowledge related to irrigation systems, hand tools, and other gardening equipment
- Strong plant identification skills combined with basic math skills for measurements and calculations
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and outdoor work in various weather conditions
