Position Details
Position Title: Construction Site Superintendent
Department: Field Operations
Reports To: Project Manager / Superintendent
Location: Field-Based (Various Project Sites)
Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (flexibility required for project needs)
Classification: Full-Time
Position Overview
The Construction Site Superintendent is responsible for the on-site coordination, supervision, and execution of public works construction projects. This position ensures that work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with project specifications and agency standards.
This role serves as the key link between field operations and the project management team, overseeing day-to-day construction activities, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring effective communication between office and field staff.
Builder Solutions Inc. is a self-performing general contractor specializing in public works projects. We minimize subcontractor dependency by executing the majority of work scopes in-house, delivering streamlined project execution on technically demanding and time-sensitive projects.
Essential ResponsibilitiesProject Coordination & Supervision
- Direct and supervise all field activities, including crews, subcontractors, and equipment operations.
- Ensure all work complies with plans, specifications, and public works standards.
- Review and interpret blueprints, plans, and shop drawings.
- Coordinate material deliveries, inspections, and utility notifications.
- Maintain daily coordination with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and inspectors.
- Conduct pre-task and safety meetings at the start of each workday.
- Verify quantities, elevations, and layout using survey data and grade control.
Schedule Management
- Assist in developing and maintaining detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Monitor daily progress and report schedule deviations or risks.
- Prepare weekly look-ahead schedules and coordinate with crews to maintain project milestones.
- Track critical path activities and communicate impacts to management promptly.
Cost Tracking & Resource Management
- Track and record daily labor, equipment, and material costs using Microsoft Excel.
- Monitor production rates against the project budget and forecast potential overruns.
- Approve crew timecards and verify accurate cost coding.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through efficient scheduling and resource allocation.
- Maintain a running log of material usage, deliveries, and quantities installed.
Daily Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare and submit daily construction reports including weather conditions, crew activities and manpower, equipment usage, materials delivered and installed, safety observations, and visitors/inspections.
- Maintain accurate document control, including submittals, RFIs, and field directives.
- Use Microsoft Word for daily logs, field memos, and correspondence.
- Maintain organized project files in compliance with company and agency standards.
Safety & Quality Control
- Enforce company and Cal/OSHA (or local) safety requirements at all times.
- Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings and ensure compliance with job-specific safety plans.
- Inspect all work for conformance with specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate with testing agencies and inspectors for required inspections and testing.
- Ensure traffic control and public safety measures are in place and properly maintained.
Communication & Leadership
- Act as the primary on-site contact for the Project Manager, client representatives, and inspectors.
- Communicate effectively with crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain project flow.
- Document and communicate any field changes or unforeseen conditions.
- Lead by example, promoting teamwork, safety, and accountability.
Project Closeout
- Participate in punch list inspections and ensure timely completion of all corrective work.
- Assist with collection of as-built data and redline markups.
- Support completion of closeout documentation and final inspection approvals.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 5–8 years of field experience in heavy civil or public works construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of public works specifications, Caltrans standards, and ADA requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Project.
- Strong understanding of scheduling, cost tracking, and document control practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and survey data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- OSHA 30 certification.
- First Aid/CPR and Competent Person certifications.
- Experience with self-performing general contractors.
- Familiarity with public agency inspection and documentation requirements.
Expected Deliverables
- Daily construction reports submitted to management by end of each shift.
- Weekly look-ahead schedules and production updates.
- Cost tracking spreadsheets with up-to-date labor, material, and equipment usage.
- Organized project files, RFIs, submittals, and field documentation.
- Completed project closeout documentation (as-builts, punch list).
Performance Standards
- Projects completed on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with specifications.
- Accurate and timely documentation of field activities and costs.
- Safe jobsite operations with zero recordable incidents.
- Effective communication and coordination between field and office personnel.
- Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and accountability.
Work Environment
- Field-based position with regular on-site presence required.
- Work may occur in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Standard work hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with flexibility for project needs).
- Occasional overtime, night work, or weekend shifts may be required for public works projects.
