Position Overview:
The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership and guidance to a team of Manufacturing Engineers and Maintenance Technicians. This role supports production operations by ensuring equipment reliability, process efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor works hands-on with both the team and cross-functional partners to solve problems, support new equipment installations, and maintain safety and quality standards.
This position requires a balance of technical expertise, team supervision, and project coordination, with a strong emphasis on Lean Manufacturing and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Supervision & Development
Supervise, coach, and support Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians in their daily responsibilities.
Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to team members.
Schedule and prioritize engineering support activities to align with production needs.
Operational Support
Ensure production goals are met by supporting equipment capability and uptime.
Partner with Maintenance and Production to lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Oversee the creation and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Work documentation.
Project Support & Coordination
Assist with planning and execution of capital projects, including equipment installations and commissioning.
Coordinate with vendors and contractors during project work.
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and ensure equipment is validated for safe, reliable use.
Continuous Improvement
Employ Lean Manufacturing methods to reduce waste, improve flow, and increase efficiency.
Use downtime reporting and metrics (OEE, TAKT Time, SPC, etc.) to drive improvement initiatives.
Support scaling of manufacturing methods and equipment layouts as business needs evolve.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with Production, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to align engineering support with operational requirements and improvements.
Provide clear updates on team activities, project progress, and risks to the Operations Management leadership.
Key Skills & Qualities:
Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop team members.
Proficiency with CAD/CAM, data analysis tools (Excel; SQL preferred).
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and engineering concepts such as TPM, OEE, FMEA, TAKT Time, and Automation.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong vendor and contractor management skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work with different departments and levels of the business.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field required.
5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role with direct reports.
Experience leading capital equipment projects, vendor management coordination, and cross-functional initiatives.
Ability to travel occasionally, including internationally, to company facilities.
Lean Six Sigma certification a plus.
MBA preferred.
This position is onsite in Austin, TX.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand during entire 8 - 11.5 hour shift.
Demonstrated ability to lift, carry and/or move up to 50 lbs. continuously during entire 8 - 11.5 hour shift.
Demonstrated ability to push/pull up to 50 lbs. continuously during entire 8 - 11.5 hour shift.
Demonstrated ability to bend, stoop and reach repetitively during 8 - 11.5 hour shift.
Ability to work in a production environment, e.g. noise levels, pace, chemical fumes, etc.
Be able to manipulate materials with hands and take apart sample items to make sure they are manufactured properly.
