POSITION OVERVIEW
The Payroll Supervisor will lead a team of payroll professionals responsible for all facets of Payroll, including partnering with external payroll partners for the timely and accurate administration of payroll. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong problem-solving abilities and a can-do approach. This role is fully on-site in our Walnut Creek office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establishes standard operating procedures for payroll processing, reporting, and compliance.
- Ability to train, mentor, and evaluate payroll staff.
- Delegates tasks effectively while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Leads initiatives like system migrations, new union agreements, or process revisions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws
- Handles escalated payroll issues (union disputes, garnishments, tax questions).
- Conducts internal audits and reconciliations.
- Provides and analyzes regular and ad-hoc reports.
- Maintains payroll operations according to company policies and procedures; improves processes, where necessary, to build stronger efficiencies.
- Collaborates with external payroll partner(s).
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Seven (7) plus years of payroll experience, with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience supervising payroll
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll reporting for multiple entities
- Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage and union payroll compliance
- Strong working knowledge of external payroll platforms such as ADP.
- Outstanding organization, eye for detail, and follow-through.
- Optimistic, with an eagerness to help others.
- Keen emotional intelligence and steadfast composure.
- Strong ability to coach and lead others.
- Technology know-how with the ability to pick up quickly on new/unfamiliar systems.
- Solid communication.

Salary : $125,000 - $145,000
