Life Insurance Underwriter

The Opportunity

In this role, you will help financial professionals and insurance carriers reach favorable underwriting solutions though:

·        Expert medical, financial, and avocational underwriting consultation to teammates and financial advisors.

·        Managing case capacity considerations, health, and financial justification factors throughout the underwriting process.

·        Effective negotiation with insurance carrier underwriters.

·        Strong support from your BUI teammates to thrive in your role, including one-on-one mentorship and access to various educational training opportunities.

What You'll Do

📑 Preliminary (Informal) Underwriting

• Provide preliminary assessments before submitting to the insurance carrier.
• Help Advisors determine which carriers are most likely to approve the case and at what rate class.

📊 Formal Underwriting

• Review underwriting data (medical records, lab results, financial reports and other data) to evaluate risk and audit carrier categorization of applicants into risk classes (e.g., Preferred, Standard, Substandard).
• Help smooth out communication, clarify requirements, and push cases forward.

🧠 Carrier Expertise

• Have in-depth knowledge of multiple carriers’ underwriting guidelines.
• Recommend the best fit for tough or impaired-risk cases.

🚀 Support Sales

• Help place more cases by improving the chances of case approvals.
• Provide strategies on how to structure the case for best underwriting outcomes.

Who We’re Looking For

·        Skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal abilities.

·        5 years of life insurance underwriting experience.

·        Strong familiarity with impaired risk cases and carrier-specific niches.

·        Self-motivated and proactive with a strong drive for results.

·        Highly organized and disciplined with a structured approach to work.

·        FALU, FLMI, CLU, life insurance license and other industry certifications a plus.
