Substitute Teacher

Buhler USD 313 is accepting applications for Substitute Teachers. Must have 60 hours college credit to apply for an Emergency Substitute License with the State of Kansas. All applicants must complete our online application as well as the application for a license which includes a background check. This is an "on-call" position.

Applicants with less than 60 hours college credit may apply for a Temporary Expanded Emergency License . Must be a minimum of 18 years old and have a high school diploma. Must complete our online application, be approved by the district, and complete an emergency substitute training module. Once those are complete the license can be applied for and background check completed. This is an "on-call" position.

BUHLER USD 313 CERTIFIED STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SUPERVISES: Assigned students

CLASSIFICATION: This is an on-call position with no scheduled work hours

JOB SUMMARY: To provide meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms while the regular teacher is absent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must hold a Substitute Teacher license approved by the State of Kansas

2. Good verbal and written communication skills

3. Emotional maturity and stability, neat, responsible, punctual, dependable, flexible, positive, consistent, cooperative

4. Professional and ethical

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Arrive 20 minutes before the start of the assignment

2. Report to the school office upon arrival at the school building and wear your ID Badge

3. Review and implement regular teacher’s routines, procedures, lesson plans, and curriculum objectives

4. Teach the lessons outlined and described in the Teacher’s sub plans

5. Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment

6. Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups of students

7. Report any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration

8. Supervise students within a variety of school environments (e.g. in the classroom, restrooms, cafeteria, playgrounds, bus loading zones, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after school programs as directed)

9. Direct any outsider to the office if they seek information about a student, or request permission to take a child from the room

10. Report in writing the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day

11. Hold as confidential any material or knowledge concerning the school (teachers, pupils, parents, principal, etc.) gained while in a particular building

12. Comply with good safety practices

13. Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies

14. Perform other duties as directed by school administration

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

1. Demonstrates required mobility, agility and dexterity to work with students in requested age groups

2. Depending on assignment, may require the ability to bend, squat, kneel, stoop

3. Ability to move quickly to intervene in unsafe situations

4. Remains attentive to students while working in noisy, crowded environments with numerous interruptions
