Job Summary
Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the pre- and post- operative stages that are undergoing gastroenterological procedures and treatments. Assess patient needs, develop individualized care plans, and collaborate with multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Possess strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for patient education and support.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ health status, including medical history, physical examination, and vital signs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments, working closely with gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals.
- Provide comprehensive education to patients and their appropriate party about gastrointestinal conditions, procedures, and post-operative care.
- Assist during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as endoscopies and colonoscopies, ensuring patient comfort and safety. Assist in maintenance and care of supplies, equipment, and instruments in procedural room. Assist in preparing operating rooms.
- Continuously monitor patients’ conditions before and after procedures, identifying and addressing any complications or concerns.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, care plans, and progress notes in compliance with healthcare regulations. Report adverse events or adverse incidents.
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team, including physicians, and procedural team to deliver patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the development of best practices and protocols.
- Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring that patients’ rights and preferences are respected throughout their care journey.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current NYS Registered Nurse license required.
- Previous experience in gastroenterology or related field is preferred, but not required. New graduates with a strong interest in GI nursing are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated ability in perioperative nursing required; 1 year minimum.
- BLS and ACLS Certifications required.
- Computer skills required with minimum proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
Physical Demands
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range to observe and communicate with patients, providers, and staff.
- Frequent reaching, stooping, squatting, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Extensive standing and walking required.
- Occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Position requires full range of body motion including ability to position and move patients.
- Work environment may involve some exposure to hazards/physical risk.
The pay range for this position is determined based on several factors, including the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, training, licenses, designations, and the overall market conditions.
