About Buffalo Go Green
Buffalo Go Green (BGG) is a nonprofit urban agriculture organization working to improve access to healthy, affordable food while providing education around nutrition, agriculture, and healthy living.
BGG operates urban farms and food access programs, participates in local farmers' markets, provides corporate and community wellness programming, and delivers nutrition and agricultural education to youth throughout the Buffalo community.
Our expanding Holistic Wellness and Agricultural Education Campus on Manhattan Avenue will provide additional opportunities for hands-on learning through urban agriculture, hydroponic growing, nutrition education, cooking, wellness programming, and community engagement.
About Pathways 360
Pathways 360 is Buffalo Go Green's youth agricultural education program designed to introduce high school students to agriculture, food systems, nutrition, sustainability, and related career pathways.
The program will use a hands-on curriculum consisting of learning modules delivered over three years. Students will participate in interactive lessons and experiences designed to build knowledge, practical skills, confidence, and awareness of opportunities within agriculture and the food system.
Position Overview
The Pathways 360 Youth Programming Coordinator works closely with Buffalo Go Green's Director of Programming and Director of Farming to coordinate and deliver the Pathways 360 program.
The Coordinator will be responsible for creating an engaging and supportive experience for participating youth, facilitating curriculum-based activities, coordinating with community partners, and supporting the successful implementation and evaluation of the program.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with teenagers, knows how to keep youth engaged, and can make learning interactive and relevant. Extensive agricultural expertise is not required; Buffalo Go Green's farming and programming staff will provide support for specialized agricultural content.
Key Responsibilities
● Lead and facilitate Pathways 360 classes and hands-on activities according to the established curriculum.
● Build positive relationships with participating youth and create a welcoming, respectful, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
● Work with partner organizations, schools, and community groups to support youth recruitment and participation.
● Keep students actively engaged through discussions, demonstrations, hands-on activities, farm experiences, and group projects.
● Work alongside Buffalo Go Green's farming and programming staff to deliver agriculture, food systems, nutrition, and sustainability education.
● Prepare program materials, supplies, and learning spaces before each session.
● Communicate regularly with Buffalo Go Green staff and program partners regarding attendance, participation, challenges, and program needs.
● Track youth attendance and participation and maintain required program documentation.
● Assist with surveys, evaluations, and other methods used to measure student experiences and program outcomes.
● Support field trips, farm activities, guest speakers, career exploration, and other Pathways 360 experiences.
● Provide feedback on the curriculum and recommend adjustments based on student engagement and program implementation.
● Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and follow Buffalo Go Green's youth safety policies and procedures.
● Perform other program-related duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
● At least 2 years of experience working directly with youth, preferably high-school-aged students, in an educational, nonprofit, after-school, mentoring, recreation, workforce development, camp, or community setting.
● Demonstrated ability to engage and build positive relationships with teenagers.
● Strong group facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to lead interactive activities and manage a group of students effectively.
● Dependable, organized, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
● Ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, community partners, and Buffalo Go Green staff.
● Commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful environment for young people.
● Reliable transportation and ability to travel to program locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in education, youth development, agriculture, environmental science, nutrition, social work, community health, or a related field.
● Experience with agriculture, urban farming, gardening, food systems, environmental education, or nutrition education.
● Experience with community outreach or youth recruitment.
● Experience implementing an established curriculum or lesson plan.
● Familiarity with Buffalo communities and organizations serving local youth.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate does not need to be an agricultural expert. We are looking for someone who can connect with young people, keep them interested and participating, and turn curriculum into an engaging hands-on experience.
An interest in agriculture, food systems, nutrition, sustainability, and community-based work is important, and Buffalo Go Green's agricultural team will provide technical support and subject-matter expertise throughout the program.
