Middle School Social Studies Teacher (Grades 5–8) – Job Description
Position Summary
The Middle School Social Studies Teacher (Grades 5–8) is responsible for delivering engaging and standards-based instruction in history, geography, civics, and economics. The teacher helps students develop critical thinking, historical analysis, and civic awareness while fostering an understanding of cultures, societies, and global perspectives.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and implement effective lessons aligned with state and district social studies standards for grades 5–8.

Teach core topics such as U.S. history, world history, geography, civics, and basic economics.

Create engaging learning experiences using discussions, projects, primary sources, and technology.

Encourage students to analyze historical events, evaluate sources, and develop informed perspectives.

Assess student learning through quizzes, tests, research projects, presentations, and class participation.

Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students with special needs and English language learners.

Maintain a positive, respectful, and structured classroom environment.

Monitor student progress and communicate regularly with parents/guardians.

Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and school initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education, History, Political Science, or a related field.
