Job Title: Oil Change Technician
Job Summary:
An Oil Change Technician is responsible for performing routine vehicle maintenance, specifically oil changes, to ensure the proper functioning of engines. Below is a list of typical job responsibilities for this position:
1. Performing Oil Changes
- Drain old oil from engines and replace it with fresh oil.
- Replace oil filters as part of the oil change process.
- Ensure proper oil levels and check for leaks after oil change.
- Use the correct type and grade of oil for each vehicle.
2. Checking Fluid Levels
- Check and top off other essential fluids, such as transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and coolant, as needed.
- Monitor and maintain the fluid inventory in the shop.
3. Inspecting Engine Components
- Check for signs of wear or damage to components such as belts, hoses, and the air filter.
- Examine the undercarriage and engine parts for any leaks, rust, or damage.
4. Maintaining Equipment and Tools
- Ensure oil change equipment, lifts, and tools are in good working condition.
- Keep tools and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
5. Customer Service
- Greet customers and explain the services being performed.
- Provide maintenance recommendations based on vehicle condition and manufacturer guidelines.
- Answer customer questions and address any concerns about the oil change or other services.
7. Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Properly dispose of used motor oil and filters in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Follow safety protocols and wear the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure that work areas are safe for customers and staff, maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
8. Vehicle Inspections
- Perform basic inspections of the vehicle's tires, battery, and lights to identify any issues that may need attention.
- Provide a detailed report of any findings to the customer.
10. Maintaining Shop Inventory
- Monitor oil, filters, and other parts stock levels.
- Assist in ordering parts and supplies when needed to ensure continuous operation.
11. Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other technicians and service advisors to ensure smooth workflow.
- Assist with training new technicians or apprentices as needed.
12. Adhering to Policies and Procedures
- Follow company guidelines and procedures for service delivery, customer interactions, and quality control.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or an associate degree in a relevant field
- Experience: 1 years of experience as an oil technician or in a similar role within the oil and gas industry desired.
- Age: Must be 18 years or older to apply.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual tasks as required.
- Ability to work long shifts and overtime as required.
